I totally agree regarding the comments about difficult-to-understand install instructions. Could probably do it again in 15-20 minutes the second time around. Don't know that it matters, but we used the Phillips screws that came with the hydrofoil to attach the Sport Clip halves and the 1/2" hex bolts that came with the clip to serve as studs to attach the hydrofoil. (I THINK this is the way it's supposed to be done.)
We had a clearance problem with the forward two studs to attach the hydrofoil as they ended up being under a secondary flange on my Mercruiser Alpha 1,and we couldn't get a wrench on the nuts to tighten them. We considered loosening the whole thing up and sliding it back about 3/4", but instead we ground down a 1/2" socket to about 5/8" tall so it would fit under the flange and then, with vicegrips on the socket, tightened up the nuts just fine.
Will try out the hydrofoil this weekend, but I'm confident it sure isn't going to fall off.

Comments about SE Sport Clip:
Not difficult to install if you watch the youtube video. The trim tab catch broke on the third trip out causing the hydrofoil to slide back on the cavitation plate. Luckily I discovered this before I lost everything. I have returned it and I am waiting for a replacement but I am skeptical about installing it.

Comments about SE Sport Clip:
watched a video on you tube and it helped with the installation. put it on the water and lost 4 mph. I have a 115 yamaha 4 stroke and thought it would help on planing out the boat, it did that, but lost a lot of mph. just not the right hydrofoil for the size of boat and motor. gonna take it back off and go with stock motor. I think it was the sport clip that made the most drag, but I refuse to drill holes in my lower unit. It might be just the item for larger motors, but it wasn't for mine.

Comments about SE Sport Clip:
I installed this according to the instructions (which are not good). The clearance on the Alpha One stern drive made it almost impossible to properly tighten bolts. I had to buy a special wrench to get to two of them. After 3 - 4 uses, it fell of and is now sitting at the bottom of our lake.

Comments about SE Sport Clip:
Install the metal tab first that will line up the bottom plastic section then tighten the screws in the reverse direction to snug the red tabs against the motor fin. Install the bolts that came with the kit according to size in the top fin facing up (this will hold the actual hydrofoil in place. Install the rubber stickers on the bottom side of the top plastic piece using the wax paper side lining the holes up. Peel off the blue side which needs to line up with the bottom plastic piece. Use the nuts, washers and bolts to attach the two plastic pieces together. Use the rubber washers and place on the bolts sticking up I believe the small to the front and large to the rear (verify with the instructions) install and bolt on hydrofoil (nuts closest to motor were tough to reach on alpha 1 merc outdrive). I hope this helps as it worked best for me.

Comments about SE Sport Clip:
This is my second boat to install a hydrofoil on. On my 16' aluminum fishboat with a 50hp mercury, I installed an original Stingray Hydrofoil, and I drilled the cavitation plante. This install was on a 225 Merc EFI outboard, and I was more concerned about drilling this motor.
I installed the "Sport Clip"; as stated in other reviews the directions aren't great. You also have to remove the anode on bottom of cavitation plate to insert a metal strap for another anchor point. After I had installed the clip I realized the Hydrofoil would now be 1" above the cavitation plate due to the thickness of the clip. I didn't like that so I removed the clip and ended up drilling the cavitation plate anyhow. Much better install, I think, plus the hydrofoil is flush against the cavitation plate. I now have an extra sport clip and nothing to do with it...
