The Model 1892 is considered by many to be the smoothest, most compact, handiest and most beautiful lever action ever offered by Winchester. It is much like a compact or carbine model of the famous 1886 and has the same dual, vertical locking system for impressive strength. It is famous for its light weight, low recoil and responsive, easy handling.
The John Wayne Anniversary High Grade 1892 is a limited edition of only 4,000 rifles, each highly embellished with delicate scroll engraving and fond reminders of the Duke, and is certain to be treasured for generations to come. Wayne specified an 18-1/2" barrel length on his personal guns to allow the rifle to be twirled by the large loop finger lever to cycle the action, a quirk that instantly become his western trademark. The right side of the High Grade's scroll-engraved silver nickel nitride receiver features John Wayne's portrait, his initials and a flowing banner with the words "Courage, Strength, Grit," while the left side of the receiver displays two portraits of John Wayne, along with a banner that reads "John Wayne American, 1907-2007." The receiver is richly accented by a deeply blued saddle ring, trigger, and hammer. This unfired, new in box collector's rifle has a brass blade front sight with a rear elevator sight and a tang-mounted safety.
