Designed by John Browning, the Winchester Model 1890 is the first slide action .22 rifle ever successfully developed and manufactured. All Model 1890's were furnished standard with plain walnut straight stocks, a crescent butt plate and 12 groove slide handle. The third model of the 1890 is distinguished by the locking cut made on the front top of the receiver to allow the breech bolt to lock externally. This rifle features a 24" octagonal barrel and has a missing elevation screw on its rear sight. Its wood and bore are in good condition and its metal is in fair condition.
