  • Q:

How does the end of the cable attach to the spool of the winch?

      A:

Most replacement cables come with a small clip included in the package. Thread the butt end of the cable from the inside of the spool flange through one of the openings in the spool flange and then secure to the outside of the spool flange with the clip and small carriage bolt & nut. There will be a small hole in the drum flange to accommodate this bolt. Make sure the head of the bolt is on the inside of the drum flange. Be sure to wind the cable on evenly and with some amount of tension applied to it. This will control the natural spring action of the cable. Always wear a good, sturdy leather glove on the hand that is holding the cable just in case there are any frayed strands. Spray the cable with a lubricant like WD-40 a couple of times a year.

Can I use this winch cable on a Fulton T1602 hand winch. It has a 3/8" rope on it, but it appears that the replacement ropes are not available anymore.
