Product Description
whitetail_institute New ground-breaking perennial designed for extreme conditions. It's a frustrating situation many hunters and land managers face every year: some of their best hunting spots have the worst soil. Or their rainfall is so low (below 30 inches) that there is not adequate moisture to support a good perennial forage crop so vital for their whitetail herds and other wildlife. With the toughest planting conditions in mind, the Whitetail Institute set out to develop a perennial crop that would not just survive but thrive in poor soils and under extremely dry conditions. And they succeeded with Imperial Whitetail Extreme, the latest seed blend scientifically developed by the Institute to appeal to a whitetail's taste. Designed for varied 5.4 - 7.5 pH soils. Requires only 15" of rain annually. Suited for well-drained, sandy, or poorer quality soil. Up to 36% protein. Lasts 3-5 years without replanting. 5.6-lb. bag.

Comments about Whitetail Institute Imperial Whitetail Extreme, 5.6 lbs.:

Planted on a powerline July first got just enough rain to germinate then a 2 week hotspell and drought, I thought it was done but it survived and continued growing, and the deer cant get enough of it we put 600lbs of lime and 50lbs fertilizer on it a [$] investment but definately the best plot we have and all for under 100.00 bucks.

Comments about Whitetail Institute Imperial Whitetail Extreme, 5.6 lbs.:

I was blessed with a sol pH of 6.8 and very nutrient rich soil so starting off my conditions were optimal. Whitetail Inst Soil test said I needed very little additional minerals but 300 lbs per acre of a 0-15-15 or better. So i fertilized as recommended and this stuff popped up like it should first rain fall in March. Resisted over browsing into early June. Received at least 3-4" each month form March to May and 2.6" in June. By late june early July the heat really took this stuff back and by the end of July there wasn't a single area where I could see a plant. I used Slay mid May with seed oil to fight off the small areas that had crept up on me. Worked Fantastic. Great product but you must follow directions closely.
So for 3-4 months great product but didn't last into the hot summer Texas months as I had hoped! I decided to plant it in the fall this year Nov 2010 and will see if that will allow roots to grow deeper and assist with making it through the tough months! We will see. One other issue I have so the insane amount of inert matter in the bag. I think a high quality seed blend or not should have no more than 1-2" and they have much more than this. Inert means they have no clue what it is. So neither do you!!
