Comments about Western Powders Blackhorn 209 Powder Muzzleloading Propellant:

I have been using this powder for a year.Contacted Western Powder for load build up.80 grains of black Horn 209 is equivalent to 100 grains of 777 or Pyrodex. Loaded CVA ACCURA 80 grs. powder, 240 gr. Hornady XTP 44mag hollow point,MMP sabot (green) and Federal 209A primers. Shoot 1" groups at a 100 yds. I now shoot a LRH Redemption 50 cal. with the same load. Same results.Check out the LRH Sporting Arms web page for the new muzzleloader.Great powder for a great muzzleloader.

Comments about Western Powders Blackhorn 209 Powder Muzzleloading Propellant:

I have found Black Powder cartridge shooting to be a fulfilling but sometimes onerous activity.. Before buying Blackhorn 209 I read many reviews all over the net.. MOST hated the new BP substitute and advised using the tried and true Black Powder.. But I like adventure and loaded it my 40-70 C Sharps Silhouette rifle..The critics are wrong! I shot minute of angle at 150 and 200 yards.. It was easy to clean with Hoppes.. Velocities were better than BP..I used Puff-lon filler to compress the load...With CCI 200 primers there were no hangfires..Expensive ? You bet it is! But consider : I was not using 70 grains of Swiss BP ($26/lb)... I used 30 grains of Blackhorn at $34/10 OZ.. Do the math.. Not too much difference !

Comments about Western Powders Blackhorn 209 Powder Muzzleloading Propellant:

I have been using regular winchester shotgun primers and have not had a misfire or hangfire yet. Love being able to clean my CVA with hoppes #9. Will never use anything else in my CVA.
