Audiologists probably hope that you never learn about this device. It is digital, not analog and is preset to accent high frequencies, which is where most people need help. You can adjust the setting. Analog hearing aids are basically just an amplifier and both low and high frequencies are amplified. Most people prefer digital hearing aids because the amplification is more tailored to where they need it. I bought an inexpensive analog unit and found the performance annoying. I found that the digital Walker device works well, almost too well. Shortly after getting it I wore it to a movie theater and was a bit distracted with some strange noises. It turned out that I was hearing people two rows in front of me crunching and chewing their popcorn. An easy adjustment to the volume and the problem was gone. I heard almost every word of the movie perfectly. That has not happened in years. I can hear clocks ticking three rooms away, birds, the wind, kids playing a block away and so much that I have been missing for many years. The device is lightweight, easy to use, has a long battery life, and stores in a small case. It is almost invisible when I have it on. There are several plugs for a comfortable fit for different size ear canals and for use while hunting or in environments where sudden loud noises are a possibility. An auto repair shop or warehouse come to mind. I use it whenever I am watching TV, in crowded restaurants, and whenever I am having a conversation with someone with a higher pitched voice, like my wife. There is no "stuffy ear feeling" except when using the foam sound deadening plug which is for use when hunting or loud environments. But that feeling is just like wearing regular ear plugs. I showed the aid to my Medical Doctor and he was amazed that such a nice unit was available at a sporting goods store. He said that he will be recommending it to other patients who need a hearing aid and that he often tells people to purchase items at sporting good stores rather than paying high prices for a similar medical item. A person however, needs to get used to the idea that not everything will sound just like it did when their hearing was OK. Some sounds are a bit hollow. Also, when first turned on, the volume is at maximum and you need to adjust it before you use it. At times I also wish that the volume control would step down just a little more. Some noises that you have ignored for years like a dripping faucet, noisy fan, the refrigerator motor, will suddenly be back. But that will happen with any hearing aid. All in all it seems like a great alternative to a hearing aid costing far more. If you are considering buying a hearing aid, buy one of these first. You may never need to buy anything else.

Comments about Walker's Walker's Game Ear IV HD + Adjustable Fine Tuning and Power Boost Control:
I have used Walker Game Ear hearing devices for years. This model is the very best. I use the "boost" when needed and it really does the job. This has to be as good as those costing $2,000 or $3,000. Please don't change the design.

Comments about Walker's Walker's Game Ear IV HD + Adjustable Fine Tuning and Power Boost Control:
This product is the most wonderful thing!! I ordered it for my husband who has a hearing problem and refuses to go pay the price for hearing aids. He was skeptical at first about using it but the first night he did use the game ear HE had to turn the TV down...I almost couldn't hear the TV and I don't have a hearing problem. Normally it was so loud for me it was uncomfortable. He loves the fact that you can adjust the loudness you need for different situations like watching TV or traveling or just being in a room of people talking. He now wears the game ear every day and is very impressed with it. He is bragging on it to all his friends who now want to know what it is and where can they get one. I just can't say enough about this product and what it has done for my husband's well being. Before if he was asked a question he couldn't hear what the person was saying and he would look to me to repeat it for him but now he understands every word being spoken to him even in low voices. Being digital and HD is a great feature and the price is reasonable. You just can't go wrong with this product.

Comments about Walker's Walker's Game Ear IV HD + Adjustable Fine Tuning and Power Boost Control:
I have been wearing hearing aids from those high cost hearing centers for the past 30 years. I bought these because I don't wear my regular hearing aids when I hunt because I was afraid of damaging them and can't aford to replace them. After trying the Walker's Game Ear; I realized I can hear better with my new Walker's Game Ear in almost every situation than I could with my $7K professionally programed hearing aids. I have stopped wearing my expensive hearing aids and had the audiologist modify the Walker's Game Ear to use my ear molds. My family and freinds are amazed tat how much better I can hear. I have stopped asking;"What did you say?" or "I'm sorry could you please speak up?". In fact the Walker's Game Ears are so good that when I watch TV, I hear it perfectly at a volume so low that everyone else compains that they can't hear it. Thank you Gander Mountain for introducing me to Walker's Game Ears. Also I have to say that the ordering process with Gander Mountain was so easy and I recieved the hearing aids in just a couple of days.

A:
It works great inside and works far better than those low technology analog hearing aids. Digital hearing aids first hit the market about 2002. My audiologist says that although there have been improvements in the technology since then, not one of her patients who has an early digital hearing aid has asked to purchase a newer digital aid. So even if the Walker technology is not the latest, it may do just fine. I researched hearing aids for about two years and I am quite pleased that I bought this one. I think you can pay a lot more for a lot less than you get with the Walker Game Ear.Answered on 2/2/2010 by Rich from Naperville, IL
