Designed as a close-range defense weapon for trench fighting, the M1 Carbine has been used by militaries around the world. The M1 Carbine uses a bolt system that is very similar to that of the standard M1 rifle and a lightweight tappet-and-slide gas system. During World War II, many outside companies were contracted to produce M1's for the US government, including the Underwood Typewriter Company, who produced less than 550,000.
This historical firearm has a Type 1 flip-up rear sight, no bayonet lug, and a great patina. The carbine has an Underwood 2-44 flaming bomb stamp and a P proofmark on the barrel. The rifle has a faint J stamp on the stock, which may indicate a replacement stock. The stock also has a crossed cannons inspector's cartouche with the initials "GHD". The carbine is in NRA excellent condition and comes with a military olive drab 1" web sling.
