"Known as the "Rifle that Won the West," Winchester's 1873 rifle was chambered in popular handgun calibers, so the frontiersman who used the rifle would only have to buy one type of ammunition. A cowboy could have both a lever-action rifle and his six shooter, and needed only one cartridge belt for both. The 1873 rifle features a side-loading gate that provides for easy loading of the tubular magazine. Like the 1860 Henrys, the 1873 Winchester rifle includes a lever lock to insure the lever remained securely in place. The 1873 Sporting rifle features a 24-1/4" octagonal barrel, an A-grade walnut stock, and a case-hardened frame, buttplate, and lever. \t
