Q:
what is trim?Asked on 9/2/2009 by Anonymous1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Trim is what a lot of outboard and sterndrive (I/O) applications use to get the boat to plane out properly. There is a motor called the trim motor that is wired to a switch, and the switch is installed at the helm. That switch can move the motor or outdrive up or down to change the angle the prop spins at, which in turn helps the boat perform better. A trim guage will inform the driver of the boat of the position of the motor or outdrive so that he knows whether he can trim down further or if he is at the max point. Tilt is another common term used along with trim. When someone refers to tilting the motor mainly they mean when they are loading and unloading the boat at a ramp or launch station they tilt the motor up so that there is less chance the motor will scrape anything and leave the motor tilted up for trailering.Answered on 9/4/2009 by JUSTIN from OVERTONS TECHNICIAN
