This was a replacement for a Furuno VHF radio. The radio installed in under 5 minutes and functioned as expected. I used it in the first day to contact the Coast Guard to lend assistance to a boater run aground. Every function/feature works as expected. Great range and clarity. Bridge tenders commented on the dramatically improved communication. I'm happy with my purchase.

I purchased this as a replacement for a 20 y/o Standard Horizon Omni. Despite availability of the DSC features, it does not compare favorably with the old radio in construction quality or appearance. Unless you go high-dollar on your GPS / Plotter - many GPS do not have the ports or wiring to interface with this radio to enable the positioning features which renders them useless. Many boaters would be as well served having a radio with only the comm and WX channels instead of the additional features and complexity that come with this radio. The features look great in the adds until the purchaser realizes they are useless without a compatible nav system. I would like to see a radio and GPS system for the recreational boater that is not loaded with unusable or unnecessary features. I would not recommend or steer anyone away from purchasing this radio.

The radio that I used before was not clear and I was not heard by others unless they were near.(I could of just yelled across for that) This radio was very easy to install and now everyone hears me when I yell "Contact" for fish on.
