This cabinet was purchased primarily to keep my firearms out of the hands of children, or anyone else who shouldn't have access. It is not a safe, but a sturdy steel cabinet with an excellent locking mechanism. I'm not terribly worried about thieves, but given the sturdy construction, the locking mechanism, and the fact it is bolted to the wall, I feel only a determined thief with heavy tools could access my guns.

        You should know that this is not a safe. It will not stop a determined burglar. It is not heavy or well constructed like a safe, it is more of a locker. Two people can carry this up and down stairs. But the for the price, it does what it is meant to do, which is keep your firearms locked up and out of reach of the casually curious. The racks are a bit high for carbines, I had to stick mine on top of an ammo box for it to sit properly in the rack. Ammo cans fit great which is a big plus. The top shelf is handy but does not hold very much. I shopped around a lot, and Gander Mountain definitely offers the best shipping price for this product.

              Overall a good product, easy to put together and move around. I use it strictly for storage so my kids can't get to them. I was able to put the two I ordered together within 30 minutes. The only thing I didn't like was there was no felt/velvet lining where the barrel leans against the slot. Not a show stopper, just a preference.
