A furthering of the Krag-Jorgensen-designed Model 1892, the M1898 Springfield was one of a series of rifles that served as the standard US Army longarm until they were replaced by Springfield's new M1903. While many other rifles of its era used an integral box magazine loaded by a charger or stripper clip, the magazine of the Model 1898 is integral with the receiver, featuring an opening on the right hand side with a hinged cover. This bolt-action rifle features a dovetailed blade front sight and Weaver scope rings. Its wood, metal, and bore are all in good condition.
