The Model 1884 was a modification of the Model 1873 Trapdoor, the first standard-issued breach-loading rifle for the United States Army. It features Springfield's signature hinged breechblock and a serrated trigger. This rifle has a fixed blade front sight with a Buffington adjustable rear sight and comes with an aftermarket leather sling. The rifle's stock has been sanded, making the cartouches not visible and the rifle's cleaning rod is not included. Its wood is in fair condition and its metal and bore are in good condition.
