I bought this collar as a last straw. I rescued a GSP at 11 monts from its prevous owner. I say rescue for the condition of poor guy.
He wouldnt listen and obviously was not worked with very much before i got him.
So i bought the collar after seeing my Aunts lab and such and worked with my guy. At first he did not like the idea of the collar shocking him and was horrified to it. Well after i worked with him for a week he started to associate the collar with play time in chich i turnbed it back on...
After using this product for 3 months and extensive work my gsp has become an amazing field dog, and very well manered pup. besides the late stage of cewing he just started at 2 years old.

The inner antenna came loose on the collar and wouldn't work from more than 6ft away. When it did work it worked great but it didn't stand the test of time I had it for about 18 months but probably only used it about 25 times. I'm hoping it was just this one and I'm going to buy another one and give it another chance.

Comments about SportDOG® SportHunter® 800 Electronic Dog Collar:
I bought this system three years ago, and am now handling three dogs on the original transmitter and the first original collar receiver is still in use. Transmitting range is still good after 3 yrs. For the price, I am getting my money's worth.
For those who are complaining about length of battery life, are you making sure the charging port cover is pressed back in firmly after charging to keep water out? Rechargeable batteries eventually have to be replaced. I use the collars regularly, still on original battery for the transmitter, and the collar batteries gave me over two years of service before I had to replace them.

Comments about SportDOG® SportHunter® 800 Electronic Dog Collar:
I bought this for my 6 month old lab and it worked really well as a training tool and transmits well. However the antenna must be checked frequently as it can come loose in the field. The lanyard for the transmitter has a poor clip and it can fall off during normal field use. This has happened to me and two other hunters I know. I would recommend securing it with another lanyard

Comments about SportDOG® SportHunter® 800 Electronic Dog Collar:
Purchased 13 months ago and was very happy with the performance. Our dog responded immediately and needed little corrective action other than the audible tone. However after about 9 months our transmitter stopped working. Sport Dog did send us replacement under warranty, however it was refurbished and now 4 months later our transmitter has failed again. For this much money I was hopping for a more durable/reliable product.

Comments about SportDOG® SportHunter® 800 Electronic Dog Collar:
This is a replacement collar for our medium large dog. He already knew how to respond. Without the collar, he tends to run away to the neighbors. Just wearing the collar seems to remind him to run in our large yard. Having the collar makes it a pleasure to be a pet owner!

Comments about SportDOG® SportHunter® 800 Electronic Dog Collar:
I ordered this collar for my lab mix mut that i found on the side of the road last december. She was good, but could use some more extensive training. This collar does a GREAT job of doing this. However, to get the best results, YOU MUST APPLY AND INTRODUCE THE COLLAR CORRECTLY AS AN EXTENSION OF A LEASH OR CHECK LINE. Otherwise, the collar will only be thought of as a nuisance to your dog instead of a correction. The range was great through about 7 or 8 months. My dog loves to scoot her head across the cement and grass when she gets out of the water. By doing this, she cracked the antenna on the inside of the reciever and the range of the collar shrunk to about 10 feet. All i had to do to get a brand new unit is call, send proof of purchase, and they sent me a brand new unit with a return postage stamp inside the box to send the new unit within a few weeks. Great customer service, no questions asked. The extra range over the SportDog 400 is great for dogs that work over long distances away from the handler such as field trial dogs or ranch dogs working stock like mine. Another great thing is it is 100% waterproof. I dropped my remote in 3 foot of water while fishing with my dog and didn't realize it for 25 minutes, everything still worked great. Great product. The price is steap, but this collar can and will transform a good dog into a perfect dog with proper application.
