Product Description
spex Spex Amphibian Eyewear are the original water sports goggles and are still 100% made in the USA. Spex polarized lenses offer 100% UV protection and also eliminate reflective glare, which makes them ideal for all water sports. Spex Goggles float and offer excellent protection from the elements such as sun, wind, spray, bugs, and other eye related hazards encountered during active water sports.

Spex combine the best features of sunglasses and goggles into one set of eyewear and are ideal for contact lens wearers. The frame is made from a super strong, lightweight material called Floatron which conforms to the shape of any face and floats! Shock-absorbing and fog-free, Spex Goggles allow complete peripheral vision. Spex are great for a variety of sports including personal watercraft, waterskiing, surfing, windsurfing, kiteboarding, and boating. Use them on land for snowboarding, snow skiing, cycling, and more.

Spex come standard with gray polarized lenses, adjustable neoprene headband, and a soft carry case.

I'm a contact lens wearer and hardcore watersports ensthusiast. Whether it's just casual riding on a jet ski or trying to land a backflip on a hydrofoil, these goggles are the best I've used in terms of comfort, protection, and design for the water--especially contact lens wearers. There's nothing worse than taking a face plant in the water and surfacing to find out that you've just lost a contact. Since wearing these goggles--about two months / 10+ trips to the lake and 100s of hard crashes, I haven't lost a contact yet. They rarely fog, but if they do, the open design allows them to clear themselves quickly once your moving again. Water wicks away from the lenses pretty easily. They don't suck to your face like a diving mask, they wear more like a pair of sunglasses with a strap. I usually wear them in tandem with a helmet and they are comfortable. They're not something you would wear out on the town, but they reduce the bright light and glare, they protect your eyes / contacts from hard impacts and water spray really well, and they're comfortable. Very functional--I'm buying another pair when I get done with this review. If I had a complaint, it would be scratching of the lens. But again, they've been tossed in and out of the compartments of my boat, the floor, the water, etc... for two months and you can still see through them just fine. They are built for abuse. YMMV.

I have used Bugz over the years when footin. The Bugz were durable and did not allow water to reach your eyes; they sealed well to your face for about 2-3 years and then it was time for a replacement pair. This year I went to replace them and they no longer make them they only make the SPEX for watersports. The open lense design and non-sealing frames are durable but allow water to get to your eyes while footin. They may be okay for skiing or wakeboarding.

This is the second pair I have bought for myself. I replaced the lenses once on my first set but after 14 years the strap was beginning to wear out.

Comments about Spex Amphibian Polarized Goggles:

I bought these for a weeklong ocean going jet ski fishing trip. The conditions were anything from very hot bright sunshine to driving rain in a squall. I wear contacts and these were perfect. I found them comfortable to wear for extended periods and had no issues with fogging. They worked great.

Comments about Spex Amphibian Polarized Goggles:

I've used Spex goggles for years and have found nothing better for jetsking and catamaran sailing. They work equally well for snow skiing and boarding. Normal snow goggles are too big to wear with a ball cap but Spex are not. The vents aound the unsealed lenses prevent them fogging on water or snow yet rarely allow water intrusion from spray or splash unless they are completely submerged.
