The S&W 642 was my first carry gun. It has been everywhere with me. It has been carried and fired a lot. It has been dropped, frozen, rained on, baked in the sun, it still goes bang every time I pull the trigger. I like the light weight and compact size. Everybody makes a holster for the J-frame Smith also. My only complaint, the finish on the frame wore off from hand sweat. This is probably one of the best guns S&W makes.

Comments about Smith & Wesson Smith & Wesson® Model 642 Hammerless Handgun:
This gun is a great buy for anyone looking for a lightweight, reliable weapon for home protection and to carry for personal protection (with a permit of course). Smith and Wesson is a tried and true brand and the quality shows in the workmanship on this gun. The only negative I can think of about this weapon is that I had to purchase a set of rubber grips to cover the metal backstrap to lessen the shock of the weapon against my hand when firing it because the stock grips left the backstrap on the gun exposed. Other than that, I would recommend this lightweight, accurate and reliable gun to anyone. Thank you Smith and Wesson for maintaining a long history of quality you can always count on!

Comments about Smith & Wesson Smith & Wesson® Model 642 Hammerless Handgun:
I needed a lighter concealed carry firearm to replace a Walther PPK/s. The S&W Model fit the bill to a tee!

Comments about Smith & Wesson Smith & Wesson® Model 642 Hammerless Handgun:
Purchased for home defense. Looks like something that would calm down a bad guy as he can actually see the bullets in the cylinder and barrel. Good fit in my wife's hand. Being a double action only, the trigger pull is pretty long. I consider it a decent trade off for not having to fumble with a safety. In a self defence situation I don't want my wife to have to remember steps A-B-C. Just point and pull the trigger.

Comments about Smith & Wesson Smith & Wesson® Model 642 Hammerless Handgun:
I fully admit that I am novice when it comes to handguns. This is my 2nd handgun purchase, my 1st is the Smith & Wesson M&P Compact 9MM which is my overall home defense, range gun, and depending on the situation a concealed carry weapon and a GREAT handgun. I selected and purchased the Smith & Wesson 642 as a concealed carry weapon for situations where it is difficult to conceal my other handgun and I wanted to learn the difference between a semi-automatic pistol and a revolver.
The Smith & Wesson 642 is amazing light, so it lives up to its "Airweight" billing. Also, for a smaller handgun, it is very comfortable to hold with a very good grip. I do admit there is a more noticeable recoil with the 642 compared to the M&P Compact 9MM; however, that is completely expected from a smaller and considerable lighter handgun. Overall, the recoil is very reasonable and the 642 shoots very accurately. The trigger is amazingly smooth. The 642 is a pleasure to shoot.

Comments about Smith & Wesson Smith & Wesson® Model 642 Hammerless Handgun:
I purchase this gun to keep in my house and drop in my pocket. The hammerless design and compact J-frame allow you to drop it in and/or conceal quickly without a problem drawing. Flawless use so far, fits and shoots well for both myself and my wife. My only complaint is that the trigger was near tarnished from the first handling.
