Comments about Silva Polaris 177 Compass:

Great compass; depended on this compass the last 10 years of my military career. I also used it for Hunting in Northern Wisconsin, lost it's water so the needle did not dampen or work correctly; disappointed but I did get 10 years out of that beloved compass. Now retired from the Army, bought two Silva Compasses, one for me and one to train my 15 year old on for whitetail deer hunting in Wisconsin. Survival and orienteering at a great price. [...]

Comments about Silva Polaris 177 Compass:

This is a great basic compass, have used Silva compasses all my life, starting in my early teens,at 52, I have never had a problem with one.
I carry this in my hunting pack in case I happen to get lost.

To the person who had the poles shift on the compass-likely due to having it near metal objects.

Comments about Silva Polaris 177 Compass:

I have owned two of these compass' in the last year. Both have gone bad with the N and S poles shifting. I'm not sure why that is but two out of two and I'm through.
