    I am a first time gun owner this year, but have fired guns since I was six, starting with Indian Guides, through Eagle Scout and so on.

    I have no intention to open a can of worms, but for me, after a lot of research, the gas piston design of the Sig 516 makes a lot of sense compared to the direct impingement method. Obviously, both work. Again, for me, the gas piston edges out the direct impingement design.

    I have not fired the gun yet as I haven't had time. The day is coming soon. Since I have not fired it, I couldn't go to 5 stars.

    I had purchased a Bushmaster ORC and in a general comparison, the Sig just seemed to be much more well built. My opinion only.

    Other than the Gas Piston/DI debate, the only knock on the gun that I would tend to agree with is the weight. It is on the heavier side. That too may offer some advantage in the end.

            The build quality is excellent as you would expect from Sig. Shoots nice and smooth, without a single malfunction so far using relatively cheap range ammo. The included Magpul accessories and flip up backup sights were a nice addition. With the difficulty of finding 30rd magazines, I wish they would have included more then 1 mag. Other then that minor gripe, I'm very happy with this rifle, and Sig Sauer in general. So much so that I've changed my "list" and am now looking at picking up the Sig 716 for a longer range platform.
