Great Weapon. There were 3 "problems" with the 1st gen P290: no restrike, protruding mag release, and small beaver tail. The 2nd gen (P290 RS) fixed all three issues. Night sights are awesome.

Disassembly is a little more difficult than other handguns but not bad. There are some good videos online to help.

I highly recommend it for concealed carry purposes.

I purchased the P290 as an easier to conceal weapon and as a back up gun. I was aware of bad reviews for the earlier model but made the purchase because of the small size, re-strike modification, Sig reputation, competitive price, and availability.
I did have about 10 instances of rounds with an initial misfire followed by fire on the second strike. As I recall, the misfires were all with a particular low cost FMJ round from a very reputable manufacturer. I have fired about 700 rounds with it so far and the only misfires were with that particular ammunition. It may be that the ammunition was discovered in storage because of the current shortage and was nearing the end of its shelf life or a slight buildup of powder residue on the slide above the firing pin prevented a solid first strike, but it hasn't reoccurred since I used up the inexpensive ammunition nor since I cleaned the P290.
Another review complained about the P290 "shooting low." My experience has been it shoots right where it's aimed. It is very accurate. It may be more difficult to control because of its small frame, low mass, greater recoil, and short sight radius, but all of those are related to the physical characteristics of all shorter lighter weapons.
Another review complained about the double action only trigger pull. The trigger seems fine to me. It's a lot easier than the P226's double action, but not as easy as the P226's single action. The P290 would be really nice in a DA/SA configuration, but not if that capability required additional weight and a larger frame.
Believe what you may have heard about the slide being able to bite your hand. One of the tradeoffs of a smaller frame is a smaller grip. If you aren't careful about where you hold your thumb, you will learn to be.
I'm really happy with the P290. It meets my expectations perfectly.
One more thought. One review indicated that you needed a vise and a punch to field strip the P290 for cleaning. Nope. Not so. You can easily grip the slide across your fingers and palm, retract the slide to align the slide notch with the slide catch, secure the frame with your thumb, start the pin removal with your finger, pull the slide catch pin from the frame on the opposite side of the P290, and then use both hands to ease the the slide forward for removal and cleaning. Not a problem for this uncoordinated older person.
