Comments about Sierra Inboard Starter for New Mercruiser, Cobra, Yamaha PMGR:
I have bought the cheaper starters a couple times and they don't last. This is definitely worth the higher cost for this product. When I installed in my boat, I had to jump out the (new) starter multiple times. After considerable abuse, it still works every time, no matter what! Would highly recommend if you don't want to buy and install cheap rebuilds every year.

Replacement starter for Volvo Penta 5.0. Price was 1/2 that of local marinas. Installed myself. Works just fine.

Comments about Sierra Inboard Starter for New Mercruiser, Cobra, Yamaha PMGR:
I priced this item at [$] at two local marinas. Granted I got it at a sale price (20% off) I saved $130.00 and it works great.

Q:
I am replacing my starter. How can I tell how many teeth the flywheel has on it or does that even matter? the selinoid kicks in, but the starter does not turn. The starter was underwater. What do you suggest? Is this the correct starter to replace a SAEJ117M?Asked on 5/6/2009 by Boat'n billy from Cape Coral, FL2 answers

A:
For us to help you in replacing your starter and also for us to make sure we get you the correct one for your engine it would be best if you could provide us with the serial number off of your old starter. Please give our Technical Product Specialist a call at 1-888-OVERTON and any one of them would be glad to cross reference your serial number off of your old starter to make sure we are getting the correct one for you. Again thank you for your interest in Overton's and we look forward to hearing from you soon.Answered on 5/26/2009 by Brooks, Marine Buyer from OvertonsA:
the "SAE" # only tells you that the starter is SAE tested for marine use . The # you need will be stamped into the field case (round part with 3 large phillips screws) 7 digits on early starters
and on later models(gear reduction) starters the #
can be found on the drive end housing (might have to scrape that good merc paint to read 7 digit #)Answered on 7/24/2009 by supposititious@hotmail.com from Canada
