just field tested this reel for 7 days and so far i'm not impressed. this reel lost a lot of cranking power due to its short handle and 6.2 to 1 high speed retrieve and also makes it difficult to close the bail. it feels like you are dragging a small stick through the water when reeling in a jig causing fatigue in your cranking hand/wrist. if it had a longer reel handle on it that would make up for a lot of it. i had a extra handle from one of my old 2000 models and tried it for my self and it instantly made life easier using this reel. the only down fall in doing so is the tiger catches on the longer handle some times on the first crank to close the bail.

Comments about Shimano Spirex 2500RG Reel:

I lost my last Shimano Spirex last summer and my rod/reel ended up in the Menominee River - I missed it so much that there was never a question with what to replace it with - now I got the reel that I picked up today in my hands and it reminds me on the many times I used the rear drag, the fighting drag and the nice fish (catfish, trout, walleye) I caught with that kind of reel - I can't wait to go out and work on the spring walleyes up north.

Comments about Shimano Spirex 2500RG Reel:

I'm gradually replacing all my reels with Shimano Spirex or Sedona. They're totally dependable and very adaptable. I like the 2500 for Canada fishing because it has the finesse for Walleye and the backbone to handle the occasional Northern or Muskie that hits a Wallye line. The rear drag models are especially convenient.

Comments about Shimano Spirex 2500RG Reel:

I bough this to replace an older "2000" series reel. It is another great product from Shimano.I use it for Bass, Pike, and other fish. The rear lever drag is a great feature. Easy to set and use, especially when you are fighting a big one. I would recommend this product.
