Comments about Shimano Sonora FB Spinning Reels:
Bought this in 1000 size to replace a Stradic that is almost ten years old and has seen very heavy use.
I have the Sonora spooled with 4 lb test and mounted on a St Croix ultra light rod to target panfish and small stream trout. It has been perfect for this intended application. But it has also handled much larger fish.
Last week I caught a 3 lb smallmouth and a 16 inch rainbow in a small stream where most of the trout and smallies are 8-10 inches. The Sonora's drag was smooth and allowed me to just play the fish without worrying about my gear.
I've had the reel only about one month so I can't comment on its durability but so far the Sonora's perfermance has been hard to distinguish from my old Stradic which cost over twice as much even ten years ago.
The only thing that was disappointing is that the Sonora does not come with an extra spool. This was once standard with Shimano spinning reels.
But I am otherwide very happy with the Sonora and really can't think of a reason to buy a more expensive reel--though I obvioulsy have done so before.

Comments about Shimano Sonora FB Spinning Reels:
Every now and then a product comes along that does what it says it will - THIS IS ONE OF THEM - A durable reel for big river catfish or small stream trout ,works every time .No line tangle , smooth , and no hype ,affortable better than my $200.00 + reels .
