Comments about Shakespeare Ugly Stik Catfish Casting Rod, 8':
I use this rod for bank fishing on the fast running waters of the Feather river in Northern California, Used for Stripper and Salmon, I need to use an 8oz weight to hold the lure in place, the Ugly Stick has just the right flexability and accuracy to get the weight plus lure/bait out far enough in the right spot to be effective and the sensativity to detect when a fish is on line or the water is moving the line. I have five Ugly Stiks of various sizes and actions never had one break in 25 years of uses. Second day out with my new Ugly Stik I pulled in a 20lbs 36" Chinook Salmon.

Great rod. No worries about pulling in a monster with this. Typical "Ugly Stik" dependability. Paired it with an Abu Garcia 6500, and they are a match made in heaven.

Comments about Shakespeare Ugly Stik Catfish Casting Rod, 8':
Well, I described it as THE catfish rod, but it would do fine for other applications, such as carp fishing or light salt water.
The rod arrived promptly in a heavy duty cardboard tube and was sealed inside a plastic bag on the inside--with plenty of packing to keep it from rattling around. Kudos for the shipping department.
I put my reel on it and in a few days I was at the lake fishing with it. This particular lake is known for big catfish. I caught several, including two channel cats weighing 11 pounds and 15 pounds. The rod handled these fish easily and I know much much larger fish have been caught on this rod.
In case you don't know, the Ugly Stiks are the gold standard in catfish rods. I am well satisfied with mine and intend to buy more so my family can fish with me. It's hard to go wrong with this rod.
