Comments about Savage Arms Savage® Model 64 FVXP Rimfire Rifle:
Purchased this rifle mainly for my wife to use. After sighting it in, we used it at a local turkey shoot and won 3 turkeys and a ham! The rifle shoots great. It is very easy to use and very accurate. My wife loves this rifle. It is very well built I am really considering buying another one!

Comments about Savage Arms Savage® Model 64 FVXP Rimfire Rifle:
This is a decent firearm. It is a real Savage....Unbelievaby accurate just out of the box. Just like the other SAVAGES THE MAGAZINE DESIGN AND MATERIALS stink!!!! I DO NOT KNOW WHY A COMPANY AS BIG AS SAVAGE DOES NOT MAKE A BETTER MAGAZINE FOR THEIR RIMFIRES ...the 10 SHOT .17HMR 5 RD. MAGS ARE EVEN WORSE.They should be ashamed. Great rifle....sorry mags.....

Comments about Savage Arms Savage® Model 64 FVXP Rimfire Rifle:
I have a Savage 64 and I am very happy with it. Although the magazine could be better I have had much more success than the reviewer who indicated that he goes through a magazine every 150-200 rounds. So far I have run a little over 3000 rounds through the magazine that came with the gun and I have not had too much trouble with it. After about 2000 or so rounds I had to take a file to it to make it feed better and after about 5 minutes of adjustments I was good to go.
Another important thing is that I do not put more than 6 rounds in the magazine. The spring in the magazine produces too much pressure if you put more than 6 rounds in. I can go as high a 8 or 9 rounds but I can tell that I am stressing the feed mechanism. If I fill the magazine all the way up I can not even get the bolt to pull a round from the magazine.
I get dime size and smaller 3 round groups at 25 yards. I get dime to quarter size 3 round groups at 50 yards. The group size is much more dependent on the quality ammunition than the rifle. I buy the cheapest ammo that I can find. I usually pay about 3 cents per round. Winchester 333 Super X ammo seems to be the best of the cheap ammo that I have used. Remington Golden Bullets seem to be by far the worst. The Remingtons work OK but they are very dirty! I have had the bolt freeze on me because of all of the residue build-up after a day at the shooting range.
The rifle comes apart very easily, all that is needed is an allen wrench, a flat head screwdriver, a phillips head screwdriver, and a wrench. The owners manual has a picture of the fully disassembled unit and is an excellent reference.
If the original reviewer reads this, DO NOT throw away those magazines that you bought, they can easily be fixed. The biggest problem is that the angle at the nose of the clip tends to be too steep so the bullet sticks. If you file the nose so as to make the angle less steep you should be able to get a lot more life out of all those magazines. Also the "wings" at the back of the magazine can get ragged after a while. If you gently file them smooth, the rounds will feed smoothly.
Hope this helps!

Comments about Savage Arms Savage® Model 64 FVXP Rimfire Rifle:
I use this gun for target shooting plinking and small game. its good for several quick shots on small game. mine has a tactical laser and light great for night hunting at close range. however the issue is that the magazines wear out very fast. after about 150-200 shots the mag will be so worn out that almost every shot will jam. the bullets miss the barrel and get crushed in the reciver. ive gone through about 10 mags in a year at $15-18 a piece. and its not the ammo either ive tried every brand and type of bullet there is in 22 lr
