I bought this rifle about 3 mo.ago. I did not want a 10/22 Ruger because they are so popular they are pricey. This Savage was well built and felt like a real quality weapon as soon as I picked it up.I compared it with other rifles in about the same price range and felt it was a much better weapon than one called a Plinkster and for the price I rated it ahead of the very popular 10/22. I was not disappointed. I fired a few boxes of different brands of ammo including some cheaper brands and it fed all of them without a hitch. I put a 4x16x40mm.CenterPoint scope on mine. The scope is less than $75 at many stores and is designed for heavy duty air rifles, but it works well on the Savage model 64.It is the most accurate .22 rifle out of the box I have ever fired. The trigger breaks clean with no creep or grittyness at about 4-5 lbs. This is a lil heavy for my taste, but it should come down a little after firing a few hundred rds. through it. It is still smooth. The buttstock is hollow on the synthetic models so I always wrap a few extra rds. carefully in a piece of foam rubber and put a small lighter, the rds.,a small stick with about 25 ft.of fishline and a few small rooster tail lures in the buttstock and stick a bandage and or few Bandaids and paper towels in the stock before putting the screws back in. This way if I am ever stranded in the woods I have a few things to help me and it balances the rifle out better.I mostly just shoot targets and tin cans with the rifle, but if I had to I feel it is a great rifle for squirrels and rabbits.

It's a great little gun, the barrel is typical Savage accuracy. However the action leave something to be desired. Very simple to operate, however after running close to 1000 rounds through mine, the bolt is catching on the back of the magazine and it won't cycle. The bolt beats the heck out of your magazine and will quickly wear out. I recommend saving your money to get the nicer Savage bolt action .22 with an accutrigger and less wear and tear on your magazine IMO. You get what you pay for I guess.

I bought this gun about 8 months ago. I was looking for a 1st gun and i knew a .22 was the way to go. I was looking at it for a while and decided to get it. I was not disappointed!. i shot it the first time with the iron sights and it was accurate up to about 15 yards for me ( first time shooter). The scoope that came with it is very cheap. I bought a Tasco red dot sight and that improved accuracy up to 50 yards. i have put almost 1000 rounds thru it and only had a few misfires and a few stove pipes. All with Federal Ammo. Its a really good 1st gun!

extremely good for small game!! Action will have some jamming depending on the ammunition you use and how well you take care of it mine has shot over 10,000 rounds before i had to replace any action parts but it was oiled and cleaned every 100 rounds i fired

This Rifle is perfect for any begginer target shooter/ small game, it's only a .22 LR so its effective range is hampered compared to bigger rounds and would be ideal to teach your kids how to shoot with either iron sights or scope. Like any new rifle it will be prone to jam for your first "brick" of ammo ~550 rounds. Mainly because the rifle needs to be "broken in" after that if you keep it maintained Savage Rifles are known for thier realiability.

Depending if you are in an area that echoes or not a .22 LR round is typchally not that loud. A .22 LR round is about as loud as a nail gun or paintball gun. As for a "Silencer" that sholdnt be necessary but you could probably custom order one.

The Savage Model 64 is a perfect begineers rifle. To start off it is fairly cheap at ~$160. Then this rifle is .22 LR a great begineers round not to powerfull and not to deadly great target round. This system will let you get the feel for rifles get adjusted to how to handle one properly then of course once you buy one you have to have more.

A 22 is great for small game rabbits, squirrles, coon, skunks ect. I wouldnt recommend a 22 for shooting a coyote unless it is at close range and certain your shot is going to put it down. Coyotes are darn tough and can go a long ways when wounded.

This rifle would not be an effective "Coyotee Killer". Especially if you are trying to guard your property/livestock. Simply because you are firing a .22 LR round. It would most likely maim and wound the Coyotee and make it flee and die somewhere but I would recomend a higher calibre. .303, 30-06 ect if you are terying to effectivly kill the Coyotee humanely.
