Comments about Savage Arms Savage Model 116 Trophy Hunter XP Centerfire Rifle:

At first I was skeptical about this gun before i bought it just because it was new and had no reviews. Out of the box I was shooting 4in low at 50 yards but after adjusting my minutes of angle, I was fine. Five minutes in I started getting 1/2 groups at 100 yds and I have had no problems at all with it. It has a very good cosmetic image, one of the smoothest bolts i've ever held, and ejects every bullet clean. Of course i have only shot 20 rounds through the gun so I can not comment on how durable it is, but like anything, if you take care of it, it will take care of you. My only problem with the gun is that I do not know how much the scope costs. I have researched and researched but both nikon and savage did a great job of keeping it secret. It is a nikon and I have yet to find a cheap nikon scope on the market, I'm not sure if this scope lack whatever bells and whistles but it does have a very clean/clear image and hasn't fogged on me. The scope also has nikon spot on which was a huge plus for me (an online software that you tells you where the bullet will drop at 200,300,etc.) For average or beginner hunter I could not recommend this gun more, it takes the hassle or shopping for guns piece by piece. My only con is that the thumb safety is made of plastic, but thats not going to keep me from returning the gun in any shape of form.
