Comments about Savage Arms Savage® Mark II F Rimfire Rifle:

The Savage Mk 2 Model BV in .22 LR is, in my experience, the most accurate rimfire rifle available at anywhere near its price. It will shoot inexpensive high velocity and standard velocity ammunition into 1" at 50 yards, and will produce 1/4 to 1/2" groups at 50 yards with mid-price match ammunition fired from a bench or a steady rest. Hunters can achieve similar 1" groups with high velocity or standard velocity 36 gr. hollow points. Hunting ammunition will shoot into 2" or less at 100 yards, and careful shooters can attain groups of 1" at 100 yards with match ammunition. As with any .22, however, it is necessary to try many brands and types of ammunition to find the ones that work best in each individual rifle. The modest price of the Savage BV makes it possible to equip the rifle with a quality scope. The Accu-trigger is a distinct safety advantage and can be adjusted by the shooter to a minimum pull weight of 2 1/2 pounds. Finally, the BV does not seem to require the degree of tinkering and tuning that is necessary to get acceptable accuracy from some other rifles in its price class. Mine shot well from the first day and improved steadily as it broke in. Rifles that I would consider to be distinctly more accurate would cost double or triple the price of the Savage. For small-game hunting, plinking and informal target shooting, the Savage bolt-action .22s are as much rifle as most of us will ever need.

Comments about Savage Arms Savage® Mark II F Rimfire Rifle:

Had a spare Leupold 3x9 Riflemen scope(Would never pay that much for a plinker scope, but its a spare). Got some 1in rings throw'em on. Threw on some spare shooter ridge 6x9Bipods, and went to the range. 525 rds later its sub moa at 200yd. Very impressed well built 5 stars to Savage

      • Q:

Hi i have been researching this product and i can not find out if the Savage model mark 2 bv (which this gun is). Comes in a left handed version. I was also wondering about mounting a scope on this gun because from my understanding it comes with scope bases installed. Thank you for your help.

P.S if anyone owns one of these tell me any advice about buying.

        • A:

I have the 2010 Savage catalog, and as far as I can see the only left-hand, adult-sized .22 LR rifles are the BTVLS and the GL. Going by the catalog photos, all the .22 LR Mark IIs have Weaver-type scope bases installed -- with the exception of the FVT, G, GL, GY and GLY, which have either peep or open sights. I have a BV and a BTVS and like them both. If you need a left-hand action the BTVLS is the way to go. It should shoot well right out of the box. Start out with standard velocity and mid-priced match ammo and try every brand you can find until you discover what the rifle "likes". Finally, don't scrimp on a scope. If you can swing it, buy a scope that costs as much as the rifle. Cheap scopes are frequently a disappointment; some of them never work, others may last only a couple of days. Don't ask me how I know this.
