Designed as a close-range defense weapon for trench fighting, the M1 Carbine has been used by militaries around the world. The M1 Carbine uses a bolt system that is very similar to that of the standard M1 rifle and a lightweight tappet-and-slide gas system. During World War II, many outside companies were contracted to produce M1's for the US government, including Saginaw Steering Gear, a division of General Motors who produced less than 295,000.
This historical firearm has a Type 1 flip-up rear sight, no bayonet lug, and a great patina. The carbine has a Saginaw SG manufacturer's stamp and a P proofmark on the barrel. The rifle also an SG manufacturer's stamp and a crossed cannon's inspector's cartouche visible on the stock. The carbine is in NRA excellent condition and comes with a military olive drab 1" web sling.
