I USE THIS CASE TO TRAVEL FROM NEW YORK TO TEXAS ON HUNTING TRIPS. IT'S A WELL BUILT, RUGGED CASE WHICH IS PERFECT FOR MY SCOPED RIFLE. THE PADDING HELD MY RIFLE TIGHT THE WHOLE TRIP, IT NEVER MOVED EVEN UNDER THE ROUGH HANDLING OF THE AIRLINES. THE ONLY THING I DIDN'T LIKE WAS THAT ONLY 1 OUT OF THE 4 LATCHES HAD A LOCK ON IT. I CALLED THE COMPANY AND THEY SENT ME 3 MORE TSA (TRANSPORTATION SECURITY ADMINISTRATION) APPROVED LOCKED LATCHES FREE OF CHARGE, SO NOW I HAVE 4 LOCKED LATCHES WHICH MAKES THIS AN EXCELLENT 5 STAR ***** CASE.

My first trip on the airlines uncovered the following issues:
1. The foam does not hold the gun from moving, you must add an additional layer. 2. the case was badly worn at the barrel end by contact with a moving belt, probably worn 1/3 of the way thru the plastic.3. There are no locks supplied so you have to buy 2 padlocks.
The case size makes it easy to carry. The gun arrived undamaged but I have concerns about how long the case material will last.
Great case for ground travel not sure it can handle airline abuse.

Comments about SKB ATA Single Rifle Case:
I personally use this case for my Winchester SXP Defender shotgun; and it works great. The ports for the locks to fit through are big enough for pretty much anything you would try to put through them. I personally use two Master Lock 1 5/16" shrouded locks. These locks are amazing (I got mine from [...] for $14 a piece). When I bought the case from Gander Mountain it actually only cost me [$]This case seems sturdy enough to survive some abuse (and it's 'insured' for $1500 if your weapon is damaged during transportation). The case is a nice weight. It's heavy enough that you don't think it's made of cardboard, but light enough that it doesn't tear you arm off when you're carrying it around.I plan on buying another one to fit my next rifle.
