this is the best pistol I have ever owned. Im a Trooper, and would ten times rather carry this on my side than my issue Beretta. Its accurate to the T, Ive shot over 4000 rounds NEVER had a jam, stovepipe, double feed, anything. Its by far the best weapon Ive ever handled, also, the grip is phenomenal. Plus, its fully ambidextrous.

Bought this pistol based on rave reviews from a variety of national sources. However, upon taking it to the range and firing it was greatly disappointed. Using several brands and loads of ammo, had multiple stovepipes of spent brass (approx. 1 in 25 rounds), numerous (approx 1 in 5) times where slide did not fully return to battery after recoil. Spent a frustrating 150 rounds hoping it would "break in". Finally called Ruger. Their suggestion was to keep shooting it and let it "break in " some more. Have done thorough cleanings between each 100 rounds. Now, after about 500 rounds, the malfunctions are far more infrequent but still occur. I expect I merely got a lemon but unlikely to ever buy another Ruger semi-auto pistol

Comments about Ruger SR9 Handgun:
Took my SR9 out to a range for the first time a couple days ago, and I couldn't be happier with how it performed! I put a couple different brands of cheap-o/mid-grade 115gr FMJs through it (all I could find in the stores), and it just ate em up like potato chips! I love the trigger weight too. Pull is relatively short, and is crisp and consistent every time you squeeze.
I put over a hundred fifty rounds through my SR9, and did not have a single FTF, FTL, or FTE. Shot from as far as 25yds, and every round hit paper. VERY accurate little gun! The tear-down is VERY easy, and cleaning is a breeze too.
If you've never owned a handgun, and want to start off with a smaller caliber, don't even waste your money on a 22LR! The recoil on the SR9 is so manageable, you could put hundreds of rounds through it in one sitting and not get tired or sore.
I would HIGHLY recommend this firearm to anyone looking for a reliable, stylish 9mm without an enormous price tag. Money well spent, and I plan to add the SR40 and SR45 to my collection in the future. Well done, Ruger!

Comments about Ruger SR9 Handgun:
I bought the SR9 as my first handgun and so far I am very happy with it. I've only put about 100 rounds thru it due to this ridiculous ammo shortage we have going on right now, but with what I've shot I am pleased. The rounds feed and eject with no issues and cleaning has been very simple. its very easy to disassemble/reassemble
Overall I am satisfied with the SR9

Comments about Ruger SR9 Handgun:
This gun is very light. That makes the recoil felt a bit stronger than other 9MM. It's a full size 9MM so I don't think weight is as important in this type of pistol as it will never be a CCW gun. I prefer my Sig P226 but that gun costs twice as much so this gun is a great value.

Comments about Ruger SR9 Handgun:
Purchased this for range shooting. Nice feel in the hand and it shoots well. No FTE or FTF and have put several brands of ammo and about 2000 rounds thru it. Clean it and take care of it and it's a nice gun.Tried putting a laser on it but decided it was more fun to shoot open sights. Nice it comes with 2 mags and a loader. I have owned many Ruger guns and you can't go wrong buying one of these.

Quality of ammunition will be a big variable. Cheap, dirty ammo will be slower and give more muzzle flash and "sparks". You can feel the difference between high and low quality. Bang vs. burn.Answered on 1/30/2010 by Dengel from Madison, WI
