Product Description
ruger The SR-556 offers Ruger's legendary rugged reliability and comes factory standard with a host of accessories that today's shooters demand. The SR-556 employs a patent-pending, chrome-plated, two-stage piston driven operating system that provides the user with a cleaner, cooler running, reliable firearm that is truly state-of-the-art. The chrome-lined gas block and chrome-plated piston and regulator work together to provide a smooth power delivery stroke to the bolt carrier. The by-products of the gas system are vented out the bottom of the gas block, away from the bolt carrier, keeping the action clean and free from contaminants.

Every SR-556 is built with a cold hammer-forged, mil-spec 41V45 barrel ensures accuracy and longevity. The smooth, trim, lightweight ergonomic handguard features a flattop receiver with a Picatinny Rail. A 6-position telescoping M4-style buttstock is mounted on a mil-spec diameter tube. Each SR-556SE comes with one Magpul PMag 30-round magazine and a soft-sided case.

Comments about Ruger SR-556E Autoloading Centerfire Rifle:

This is an amazing rifle. I wish my service rifle was as good as this. It's a little on the heavy side, but it helps to stabilize when firing. Since purchasing in Dec, I've got about 3-400 rounds through it and absolutely no misfires or jams. Performance is flawless and smooth. It comes with flip up sights, but I paired it with a Nikon P223 4-9X40 scope and I've got it zeroed at 100yds with quarter sized shot groups on 4x. Amazingly accurate........Can't wait to stretch it's legs and see how far I can take it. I was looking for an intro AR in the $700-1,000 price range but was not happy with the craftsmanship (loose hinges, shaky and noisy when handling). got my hands on this and knew this was the one. My wife even likes to shoot this and she is anti A.R's. reason for picking this is that I was tired of settling on lower quality for the sake of price and bit the bullet here. You get a whole lot of gun for the dollar. for the quality and craftsmanship of this AR, id expect this rifle to cost over $2k.

Comments about Ruger SR-556E Autoloading Centerfire Rifle:

I wanted to throw it into the trash the first time I took it to the range for my fist time shooting it.
I loaded 20 rounds of American Eagle 223 into my magpul mag, which I have used several times before. I pulled the charging handle, aimed, pulled the trigger, and click, a soft strike??? I removed the mag, pulled the charging handle and I couldn't budge it, again and again I tried and finally the round ejected and I could see the impression of the firing pin. I loaded the mag again, pulled the charging handle and locked the bolt. I hit the bolt release and aimed pulled the trigger again and again click. Removed the mag and tried to pulled the charging handle, but this time I couldn't pull the bolt. I got two wrenches and using one laying on the charging handle I used the second wrench to hit the other trying to move the charging handle. I hit and hit and hit to the point I though I was going to break the charging handle, but then it opened and again it ejected a light strike round. I loaded a third round and pulled the charging handle, pull the trigger and this time it fired, and I fired the 18 remaining rounds. It has operated without a problem since that time and I have fired maybe 200 rounds though it without a problem. Now every time I look at the Ruger 556e I see a scratch surface just below my charging handle to remind me of my first time shooting the Ruger and thinking that I should have purchased another S&W M&P 15.

Comments about Ruger SR-556E Autoloading Centerfire Rifle:

The Ruger series of AR platform rifles are a really great product for the money. I really wanted a 6.8 SPC piston AR for Deer season last fall and when I tried out the Ruger rifles I knew this would be the ticket. I admit that I really wish that Ruger would offer a complete rifle in 6.8 but I reckon now I have the best of both worlds by swapping out the uppers to shoot cheap surplus 5.56 or the 6.8 for serious business.
I will say that if you are not familiar with DI AR's vs. Piston AR's you may be a bit shocked that they are heavier. Don't worry, you will not mind the weight the second you fire off some rounds and the rifle doesn't move! I love and own both gas systems in AR's so I thought it would be worth mentioning.
I rated the rifle 4 stars but think more like 4 1/2 or 4 3/4. For the money the SR-556 series are fantastic. Anyone that would be comparing to say a LWRC or Rock River Arms piece may find some things less desirable.
But hey, the extra money you save can go to ammo! Can't go wrong with that!
