Q:What is the effective range of this firearm in a hunting situation?Asked on 11/29/2010 by Cowboy.Pirate from Atlanta
A:That's tough to answer because it depends on which model you get, but overall, I'd say that the effective range of the current offerings will be short. The smoothbore version is bored out to .45 caliber rather than .41, so .410 shot loads wont make a good seal with the bore, causing gas blow by and a loss in power. .410 slugs wont make proper contact with the bore leading to poor accuracy. The barrel isn't rifled, so 45LC loads will also have poor accuracy past a few yards.
If you get the model with a rifled barrel, then .45LC carts should be good to about 50 yards or so on big game. The downside however, is that shot patters will spread so quickly that your maximum range with a shot load will be less than ten yards. .410 slugs still wont make proper contact with the bore so their accuracy will suffer.
There's a .410 only variant that will handle shot shells much better, and a .44mag version was introduced at shot show this year, if you plan on doing any big game hunting.Answered on 2/13/2011 by Aaron from Michigan

A:It is drilled with scope mount attached.Answered on 2/13/2011 by jspbeef from Tucson, AZ
A:Has a picatinny rail on top, ahead of the back sights. I'm thinking of dropping a red-dot on it for easy eye relief.Answered on 2/17/2011 by 45 in the Chamber from Buffalo, NY
