I was not interested in buying gun. I was looking for my neighbor on a trip to NY and OH. They are very hard to find in Western NC. I found one in Ohio, cuddled it and loved it, especially the TruGlo sights, although, I put a TruGlo Reddot on it. We finally got the guns at Gander MT in Knoxville. I love it, I don't like the idea of screwing out the 410 choke for a thread protector to fire the 45. We shot ours together, I was jusing the choke with 410 and keeping a tight pattern at 51 ft. He was shooting 410/45 with the thread protector and his 410 was all over the woods. I would not wanted to be on the receiving end. So I guess is best for home defense to leave the thread protector in and shoot the combo, anyway, you are going to hurt someone. The finish on the gun is extemely nice, I am very proud of it. I was shooting [...]anmnmo with no gliches, highly recommended.

Comments about Rossi® Circuit Judge Centerfire Rifle:

The moment I held this gun in my hand and put it against my cheek to look down the sights. I was in love. The butt stock was the perfect distance and position for me to look down the sights. And the ultra high vis sights make shooting at close range easy. I bought this for home protection. Something easy to aim, shoot, powerful enough to take out an intruder, but won't go through the wall(s) and into the next county. People on here complain of the accuracy past 30 yards. well lets just put it this way. It's a hand gun with a butt stock and a really long barrel. if you expect any handgun to have a 3" grouping or less past 30 yards than you have a way higher expectations than I do. most the 45LC rounds you find are hallow points. they are not made for distance nor accuracy they are meant to kill and eviscerate anything it hits at short range, not take out a deer at over 50+yards. same goes for .410 rounds. this gun was not meant to shoot hundreds of .410 rounds at the range all day. With the proper care and maintenance it does what it was meant to when you need it.

I was looking for a remington shotgun but after looking at 6 different guns on the shelf I was shown this beauty and fell in love with it. It's very diiferent than your regular rife for game hunting and defense. If you can't wait for your pistol permit this maybe your closest choice to a pistol with the 45 long colts. The girl behind the counter was very helpful in helping me chosing this gun as well. She really knows her stuff.

An excellent choice for .410/.45LC shooting; I purchased it for home protection and target shooting and am very happy with it.

Also pleased with Gander Mountain's pick-up/background check. Being in NY, I wasn't sure what to expect regarding the background check but it was no problem; 15 minutes or so and the gun was in my hands. Please don't let worries about the new gun laws dissuade you from buying this gun; if you're one of the "good guys" it's still no problem.

Comments about Rossi® Circuit Judge Centerfire Rifle:

I plan to use this for hunting. Right out of box open sights, shooting free hand, I shot a 1 1/2 inch group at 30 yards and the group was only 2 inches to the left of dead center, thats some good factory sighting. I have shot 50 rounds of 45 colt and not seen one "key hole". Gun is extremely light, finish is great on metal and wood. This gun will be perfect for smaller big game such as whitetail at less than 100 yrds and small game, squirrel and rabbit with the .410 loads.

I bought this gun to take care of black snakes that keep coming into my garage. I was using a .22 with bird shot which works well for small snakes, but couldn't handle large snakes. The circuit judge makes short work of the large snakes, it is very accuract at short range.

What is the effective range of this firearm in a hunting situation?

That's tough to answer because it depends on which model you get, but overall, I'd say that the effective range of the current offerings will be short. The smoothbore version is bored out to .45 caliber rather than .41, so .410 shot loads wont make a good seal with the bore, causing gas blow by and a loss in power. .410 slugs wont make proper contact with the bore leading to poor accuracy. The barrel isn't rifled, so 45LC loads will also have poor accuracy past a few yards.

If you get the model with a rifled barrel, then .45LC carts should be good to about 50 yards or so on big game. The downside however, is that shot patters will spread so quickly that your maximum range with a shot load will be less than ten yards. .410 slugs still wont make proper contact with the bore so their accuracy will suffer.

There's a .410 only variant that will handle shot shells much better, and a .44mag version was introduced at shot show this year, if you plan on doing any big game hunting.

Has a picatinny rail on top, ahead of the back sights. I'm thinking of dropping a red-dot on it for easy eye relief.
