Product Description
Designed by John Browning, the Model 1911 was the standard-issue side arm for the United States armed forces from 1911 to 1985 and is still carried by some U.S. forces today. The Model 1911's longevity is due to Browning's often-imitated design, which incorporates the short recoil principle. The M1911 is a single-action, semi-automatic, magazine-fed, and recoil-operated handgun chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. Rock Island Armory makes a 1911A1 clone that may be the most loyal to the original design. These pistols are manufactured with ordnance grade 4140 steel and all parts are compatible with original 1911 United States GI models.

Comments about Rock Island Armory Rock Island 1911-A1 Handgun:

I am addicted to 1911s, and this was a spontaneous purchase, but I have to say, I love it!

My intent was for this to be a cheap, glove box gun, but after shooting it, I had to put it in the safe next to my bed.

If you are looking for an entry level 1911, and don't have a lot of cash to part with, this is the gun for you.

My only gripe is the magazine. It allows the round to nose dive on chamber entry and causes an occasional FTF. Throw it away on day 1 and get you a couple of MegCar or ProMags. Problem solved, and no FTF in over 1,000 rnds!

A cheap way to increase performance would be to add a Hogue wrap-around rubber grip. After that addition, this gun shoots like a dream.
