I just purchased this target today and it already satisfies. The self-healing foam really works. When I went to pull an arrow out, you could visually see the hole closing up and all that was left was the tiniest indentation and just a little discoloration. I was going to try to shoot it out in a year, but I can already see that that's out of the question. Arrow removal is really astounding. I went and shot in a 3D shoot up north of where I live with a friend. He had to pull out all the arrows because I usually use bag targets and am not used to really pulling to get the arrow out. Well those targets obviously weren't Rineharts.

This target really does stop arrows in their tracks, and I shoot a high speed bow that puts out over 300fps. Hoyt Powerhawk, 60lbs. Pulling out is realatively easy, especially if you've shot the same area multiple times.

I don't really have any cons to the item. It out-preforms any targets I've ever used or seen.

I would (and am) recommend(ing) this to friends. It's a lot cheaper and less time consuming to get one of these than a lot of other targets like bag, or open-layered foam.

After reading reviews of various targets to use with my crossbow, the biggest problem seemed to be stopping arrows/bolts from fast crossbows (like my Barnett Predator @375 ft/sec) before they penetrated far enough to damage the vanes. I went with the Rinehart 18-1 specifically because several reviewers said it excelled at this task.

Unfortunately, while it DID stop my bolts with about 9" penetration, it also held onto them like they were welded in place. I had to send away for a special clamp-type remover and lever them out of the target. I applied an arrow lube to them before my next attempt and THEN they came out very easily (though they also penetrated farther - to within 1-2" of the vanes).

The 18 shooting faces of the target make each individual shooting face rather small, so you can't shoot many arrows before the face is full and you need to retrieve arrows. For the same overall size, I'd rather have the standard six sides with multiple aiming points.

To be fair, arrows from my son's bow and my vertical bow (both much slower than my crossbow) pulled out easily even without lube.

Bottom line - it works, but don't even think about using the fastest bows or crossbows with it unless you use arrow lube.

Comments about Rinehart 18-1 Shooting Target:

I shoot daily with my Hoyt Charger 70# using Easton FMJ with Grim Reaper 100 gr. expandables and field points. This thing just wont give in. It is super tough and I don't imagine I will be able to shoot it out in a year or even 2. Well worth the extra money. In the beginning it was a bit tough to pull arrows but after a few volleys its easy. It just needs a little breaking in. The only damage I see at all on this thing is little dots where arrows have hit.

Comments about Rinehart 18-1 Shooting Target:

This thing is tough! it can take thousands of arrows and keep on taking them. The ONLY bad thing I can say is that it is tough to get the arrows out until it is broken in. Get an arrow puller after it gets broken in, the arrows are much easier to pull.

Comments about Rinehart 18-1 Shooting Target:

Received quickly and in perfect condition. The target can be used for both target points and broadheads. Both are stopped quickly and are easy to remove. The broadheads do pull some small slivers of foam upon removal but there is a lot of surface area to work with.I am new to archery and have an Excalibur crossbow. The Rinehart was recommended by a rep.for another brand of target that does not recommend their target for broadheads. I needed to verify accuracy with hunting bolts before feeling competent to hunt deer. It has already served that purpose. Don't buy two targets when one does well with both points.

Apply an arrow lube to your arrows/bolts before shooting, then they will remove very easily. For the ones that are already stuck, search for "arrow puller" on auction web sites. You'll find one that looks like a nutcracker and one that looks like a bullet mold and handle. I bought the latter and it was still a challenge to get my non-lubricated bolts out.

Try to wipe the arrows 1/2 way down with Armorall let them dry and you should be all set. When removing the arrow always push a little down on the arrow close to the entry hole and pull same time. You should not have anymore issues. Hope this helps you.

It's fine to set on the ground and shoot from a distance. You might want a stand of some sort for it if you like to shoot out at eye-level, though.

What are the dimensions of this target? I assume the "18-1" refers to 18 shooting spots on 1 target, but does that also mean it's 18"x18"...or what?

This target works great with field tips and broadheads. Arrow removal is OK. I have used all types and the Rhinehart isnt the easiest but isnt the harderst either.
