remington The Model 700 Varmint-Tactical Rifle is a revolutionary system optimized for extended range precision and mobility. Its triangular barrel contour is a product of years of rigorous research and development focused on reducing weight, enhancing rigidity and promoting rapid heat dissipation. To decrease recoil and muzzle jump, this uniquely contoured 22" barrel has an integral muzzle brake that's machined in during production. Along with the barrel design, brought together a host of other cutting edge features on this super accurate Model 700 platform. The results are nothing short of astounding. Chambered for the inherently tight grouping 223 and 308 calibers, each model engineered with a rate of twist optimized for tactical style bullets, the Model 700 VTR is compact and swift handling thanks to its sleek lines and short action. The legendary "three-rings-of-steel" and the many other superior design elements of this rifle deliver the highest degree of out-of-the-box accuracy available today. Plus, it's matched with the X-Mark Pro Trigger system for the ultimate in crispness and shot control. For improved consistency, the green synthetic stock has a vented beavertail forend that promotes rapid cooling. Its overmold accents provide a firm gripping surface and the dual sling swivel studs permit convenient attachment of a bipod and a sling.

      the barrel is actually 20" if you don't count the muzzle break ( which is very functional ) the rate of twist is 1 in 12" which is fine for bullets up to 180 gr.i wouldn't go any heavier than that in .308 caliber...after 180 gr the bullets must be seated too deep & powder capacity is compromised...( not much powder = lower velocity )the triangular barrel looks really cool & gets a lot of compliments...not sure if it makes for accuracy,cause it IS VERY ACCURATE...one of my favorite guns & i own quite a few....GREAT GUN !!

      i use my remington 700 mostly at the range and long range hunting, im so impressed and confident with this weapon that i make sure i am at least 250 yards from where i normally see deer. i love the trigger as well, great pull and adjustable, you always no when the gun is going to go off, no more squeeze untill the gun scares you, shoot with confidence get a remington 700

        I bought my VTR the first week they came out and I have been very impressed so far. I have seen and shot many of the varmint/precision rifles out there and can say for the money this is a great gun. Never had any problems what so ever. I have a black VTR in .308, Harris Bi-Pod, Remington weaver rail, Bushnell Elite 3200T 5x15 mil-dot, Millet rings and the trigger adjusted. Great performer. I have shot Gold Medal Match 168's through it but I am now shooting Hornady 168 TAP. This rifle with the right combination of optic's, ammunition and a good Indian behind it can make a very accurate set up.
