Comments about Remington® Model 700™ SPS™ Varmint Centerfire Rifle:
Overall, it's a great rifle. I prefer the .308 to anything else due to its high accuracy. Really the only bad thing I can say about this is that it's rather hard to load with the internal mag.

Comments about Remington® Model 700™ SPS™ Varmint Centerfire Rifle:
I got 0.5" out of the box with the 12x scope pkg. Wow. That is after reloading my own 308 with either Imr3031 or Varget. Finding the right load with the right OAL is important. Varget is better for higher speed using 168 SMK bullet. I think the barrel was almost floated out of the box, as my particular stock showed very little evidence of contact, about the size of a nickel's edge for half a centimeter long. Subsequently, I switched to a Choate Ultimate Varmint stock that made the rifle heavier, more stable, and solid. I can get 0.25" groups with ease, windless days. Probably 0.75" grouping at 200meters (218 yards). Stock trigger adjusted way down. A lot less recoil with a heavier stock. Great action by Remington.

Comments about Remington® Model 700™ SPS™ Varmint Centerfire Rifle:
This Gun is built on the tried and true remington 700 action. As far as the barreled action goes it is a great starter gun. It will hold 1" groups on occasion, but out of the box typically there will be one or two fliers out of the five shots. This is mainly due to the stock not being free-floated (it appears to be-- but is not). the stock is very flexible and is definitely the weak point in this setup. Once i replaced the stock with an aftermarket, aluminum block stock i immediately got rid of the fliers. it is now consistently a 1 moa gun.

Comments about Remington® Model 700™ SPS™ Varmint Centerfire Rifle:
this weapon is amazing accurate and strong, recoil is less than expected but still noticeable the weight of the barrel alone makes it very steady for long shots i was able to get 1" groups at 150 yrds with ease mine was pre set up with a 4-12x40 scope and sling to make the deal even better. dont forget about the remington rebate on the 700 sps varmint rifles... good till march 31 will definatly buy more remington 700's in the future

Comments about Remington® Model 700™ SPS™ Varmint Centerfire Rifle:
I put a Nikon 4.5-14x40 Scope on this rifle, took it to the range and sighted it in within just few shots on the 100 yard range.
I then proceeded to put four shots in a row on paper that were so close together, you could barely tell where one ended and another began. I pulled a quarter out of my pocket and covered all four holes with room to spare.
Right out of the box this rifle is a jaw dropper.
I had hung two targets next to each other and focused my attention on the second target. One shot, dead bullseye. I don't think Remington could have impressed me more that day.
I cannot wait to start taking on targets further down range. Where I shoot, the range goes out to 1000 yards. I have no doubt this rifle will keep on impressing me.
I will be getting a recoil pad though. I bought the .308 model and once I start shooting, I just don't want to put this rifle down.

Q:
Hi I'm new to sport shooting , would like to ask what are the differances between the modle 700 and the 770 rifle . and what scope would be recomended ? Thanks rickAsked on 2/4/2010 by Rick from Titusville2 answers
A:
The only real difference is the fact that the 770 is set up with a 3x9 scope mounted and bore sighted. your best bet is to go to remington's website and be overwhelmed with the amount of choices. first thing is to find a caliber for yourself. do you want a long distance target gun or a hunting gun? mid range, varmint? are you fine with larger recoil or do you need something light.Answered on 2/12/2010 by tutti from palm beach, flA:
THE 770 IS A MUCH CHEAPER VERSION OF THE RIFLE. THE LUGS ON THE BOLT ARE MUCH SMALLER, THE ACTION IS NOT SMOOTH AT ALL COMPARED TO A 700 AND FROM MY EXPERIENCE THE 770 IS NOT AS ACCURATEAnswered on 2/8/2011 by DEERHUNTER from SAYVILLE, NY
