Product Description
remington The Model 597 is easily the most advanced autoloading rimfire rifle ever built, and the most technologically advanced breakthrough in autoloading rimfire rifle technology in 35 years. The difference starts with Remington's proprietary bolt-guidance system, which features a unique set of twin tool-steel guide rails for better stability, feeding reliability and greater out-of-the-box accuracy. The bolt, hammer and sear of the Model 597 all feature an exclusive nickel-Teflon plating for smooth, dependable operation and an ultra-crisp trigger pull. To assure reliable, long-term accuracy, the 597 incorporates a unique positive-locking, permanently rigid barrel attachment clamp. Receivers are grooved for standard rimfire mounts and tapped/drilled for Weaver-style bases. Completing the breakthrough design are an innovative last-shot "hold open" magazine feature and Remington's patented, easy-to-use staggered-stack magazine. In this exclusive Gander Mountain package, the 597 is coupled with a 3-9x32MM scope.

Bought this gun the other day after searching for a .22 for a while. You can't beat the price and remington has a $25 rebate on it as well. Very accurate after bore sighting it. First day out I got my first two squirrels of the year that wouldn't have been possible with my shotgun. I haven't had any problems with jamming so far and i have put about 100 rounds through it.

Remington can do better

I bought two 597s when they first came out and couldnt either one shoot without jamming.Remington should have stayed with the Nylon 66, they worked.

Great .22LR

Pros

  • Accuracy
  • Easy To Use

Cons

  • Poor Construction

Best Uses

Comments about Remington Model 597 Rimfire Rifle Package:

Picked up this .22 after looking at a number of them. I love to squirrel hunt but didn't want to spend a lot of $$ on a new gun. Glad I went with the 597. Pushing tacks at 100 yards with CCI 40gr varmit loads and no squirrel is safe in the woods. Only down side is the firing mechanism is cheaply made. If you do buy one, register it and Remington will take care of you.

Comments about Remington Model 597 Rimfire Rifle Package:

This is a 22. Ammo is dirty and the gun needs to be cleaned. Get used to it or dont buy a 22. The Remington feels larger than a 10/22 and out of the box it shoots fantastic! (Add the target hammer for a WoW) This weapon is worth every penny. The ONLY real issue I have are the Magazines. They sometimes wont load 10 rounds. I load only 8 now and have no issues whatesoever. I would like 10 tho....?

I have 5 children shooting age plus myself and my wife so i own 7 of these just in my family, plus i have friends that own them, and using cci stimger ammo we have no jamming issues. .22 lr ammo is cheap so buy cci and dont look back. and those of you that have jamming issues quit buying junk ammo and your gun wont jam.

From under 100 yards it should... just hit it in the head.

            • A:

This would not be the ideal caliber for deer and in most states the use of this caliber for big game would be illegal.
Further the use of this caliber would be down right un-sportsman and frowned on by any real big game hunter.

            • A:

No, if you want to kill a small dear or cayote i recommend calibers .223-.308. the 22lr round is a good round for small game but on a deer/cayote you will need probably 2-3 shots and these animals are smart and very fast!!!!!!!!!

            • A:

wont kill deer, but i have taken coyotes within 75 yards using cci stinger ammo. you should use at least a .223 though, but if coyotes are your game this will get you started.
