Product Description
remington The accuracy and reliability that have made the 1911 an American icon now shine brighter than ever. The Model 1911 R1 is truly the finest blend of exacting craftsmanship and out-of-the-box performance available today. Every element is produced with ultra-tight tolerances on equipment representing the height of modern technology. The result is a sweet-shooting advancement of a legendary design that Remington is more than proud to put their name on. Like the original 1911, the 1911 R1 has a flat mainspring housing, short trigger, and double-diamond American walnut grips. Modern enhancements on the 1911 R1 include a flared and lowered ejection port, beveled magazine well, loaded chamber indicator, a precision-machined slide and frame, high profile dovetailed single-dot front and two-dot rear sights, a crisp 3.5 - 5 lb. trigger pull, and a match-grade stainless steel barrel, and barrel bushing. It also has the Series 80-style firing pin block safety. The Remington 1911 R1 ships in a custom plastic carry case with two seven-round anti-friction magazines and a barrel bushing wrench.

I was looking to buy the Citadel or the GI Mil Spec. I couldn't see the sights with my 56 yr old eyes. The Remington sights were Huge and it felt "just right" in my hand. Extremely accurate and well put together. One of the GanderMtn RO's thought I had had a trigger job done and when I told him it was stock his reply was "No Way!"

My 1911 R1 came from the local Gander Mountain outlet in an unserviceable condition; its fragile, Colt Series 80 -type internal safety mechanism had broken, locking the slide in battery. After an hour or so with a small brass hammer I was able to dislodge the faulty part and remove the rest of the internal safety - or, as I prefer to call it, the self-defense inhibitor. I'm very glad the gun seized at home, instead of when I was out in brush country faced with a ravenous pack of the feral hog which infest this area. Many of the R1's components seem to have been reduced in size so that they aren't interchangeable with standard size 1911 parts, and the overall fit of the weapon is so excessively tight that the gun isn't reliable for use in combat situations. All in all, the Springfield Armory Mil-Spec 1911A1 is a far better, more trustworthy handgun for any purpose except - perhaps - punching holes in paper targets. I'll have to reserve my judgement on that until I get the R1 working satisfactorily.

        Comments about Remington® Model 1911 R1™:

I was looking for a "close" mil-spec 1911. Remington delivers the best of pre and post WWII with this weapon. It has a trigger block but still has a very smooth trigger pull. The balance is excellent, and with the right holster, you can carry this gun all day with no problems.

I enjoyed this weapon so much that I bought the stainless model to go with the blued model. In the future, I plan to add the Remington enhanced.

          Comments about Remington® Model 1911 R1™:

This was the first 1911 I bought and I loved how it shot right out of the case! It shoots really accurately. It is a little heavier than my other 1911 but has less kick because of it. Of all the calibers of guns I've shot, this 1911 .45 is one of the most fun to shoot! The best thing is this gun sells at a great price from a great brand. Also I am female and this gun is no issue for me or my sister to shoot!

            Comments about Remington® Model 1911 R1™:

Great 1911; period. It is styled on the original mil-spec but has the few changes / upgrades which make this a very easy to use, accurate and low recoil pistol. At 7 yards, with my 50 year old eyesight, getting two inch groups is easy.

My wife shot this pistol and now wants one of her own! Her groups where as good if not better than mine. (although she does have younger eyes).

If you want a 1911 close to the original, Remington has produced an excellent product which give you the best of both worlds.

One note: The more you shoot this pistol, the easier it is to breakdown and the easier it is to operate.

I am now a Remington fan.

              Comments about Remington® Model 1911 R1™:

Remington outdid itself with this MILSPEC 1911. Mine ran smooth without a single FTF or jam right out of the box during the first 100 rds. I had a new model Series 70 Colt 1911 which had stovepipe jams often, and threw spent hot casings into my head. This Remington did NONE of that. What was more shocking to me was inside and out, the Remington seems to have paid more attention to fit, finish and quality control. My Colt is history. This Remington stays. In my opinion, this is the new best AMERICAN made bare-bones modern 1911, and I've had many others to compare it with.
