Sighted in bench rested at 50 yards with my open sight CVA. I was about 1/2 inch high and 1/2 inch right. Went to do same thing immediatly at 100 Yards. First shot 1/4 inch high 1/2 inch right. Used the 245 grain aerotip with 130 grains of Triple Seven pellets, and a Winchester Triple Seven 209 Primer. I would highly recomend the CVA Powerbelt. With a little experimentation on weight and grains of powder this is a tack driver.

Comments about CVA PowerBelt AeroTip Copper Series .50-Caliber Bullets, 295-gr, 15-pack:

If you use more than 80-100 grains of powder they may not open on impact. I shot a beautiful buck at 15 yards with 150 grains of powder, the bullet only made a tiny entry and exit hole and no blood trail. Luckily, I fount the deer. Shot placement was perfect, but with the smoke created during the shot you will need a good blood trail to follow in most cases unless the deer flops in place. After doing much research, trial and error shooting different bullets and different loads, I would not waste my time, money or effort on these bullets.

Comments about CVA PowerBelt AeroTip Copper Series .50-Caliber Bullets, 295-gr, 15-pack:

I shot this in a Winchester with 90 grains of pyrodex. The bullet is accurate and I have shot a number of deer with it. But every time the bullet simply passed through without expanding and did not leave a blood trail!! Will not be using this on deer anymore!!

I just purchased a Thompson Center Hawkin 50 Cal cap percussion rifle. Will this bullet be a good choice for Elk Hunting and what powder charge is recommended?

            • A:

Yes it would be a good bullet. I would start around 75 grains of powder and work up in increments of 5 to 10 extra grains at a time. I believe that you are going to find your accuracy around 100 grains of Triple 7 powder
