Comments about Pacific Aerials P6123 VHF 8 Ultraglass Antenna:

For a 1/4 of the cost of shakespeares, this works great. And I got the Pacific vhf and fm splitter. That work great too!

      • Q:

Is there a big difference between the 6 and 8 ft antennas as far as distance for transmitting and receiving purposes? I am using this on my 18ft. fishing boat in Canada. How about the nylon ratchet mount, Is it strong enough to support the antenna while moving? Thanks for the help. Gene

          A:

          Thank you for your question.
Antenna height in comparison to the horizon helps with radio transmission--but there are a lot of other factors to factor in such as antenna load ratings and the local environment. On a small boat---while 8ft high can be ideal--the 6ft performance (given equal build and antenna load ratings) will be very similar.
The plastic mount will work fine while underway---just realize that at some point it will break down and break ---a metal antenna mount is a better permanent solution.
