We got this for our 5 month old after having tried 2 other neoprene, zipper style infant life vests. She hated the others and was very uncomfortable in them. It seemed like when you zipped them up, they were too tight even though she only weighs 16 lbs. This one is very easy to put on and take off and she doesn't mind it at all. The fact that the back portion does not have any of the foam flotation material in it makes it much less bulky and less restrictive for her.

The infant life vest was bought for an 18 month old, 33" tall, and 23 pounds. I wasn't sure how it would fit, but putting it on our child it seemed ok. It was a little confining with the collar around the head and the thick front, but biggest complaint is when in the water the main front part moves up under the chin and looks very uncomfortable and confining. I think the problem is that the strap around the waist is not wide enough and does not hold it in place snuggly. Also, if the child does not have a shirt on or a one pc. bathing suit, the small strap around the waist isn't comfortable on their skin, whereas a wider piece might do better. As our child gets taller, maybe the straddle will keep the vest in place and with more use it may get better. Only used two times so far.

Comments about Overton's Overton's Infant Vest:

This product is well-made, and should do an excellent job protecting an infant if worn as designed. It's easy to adjust, and, should the need arise, has a very handy grab-handle. However, if adjusted to fit properly, these are very uncomfortable (around the neck) for the infant unless they are standing. Our twin grandchildren are both around 20 pounds, and about 30 inches tall, so a smaller infant would find this more uncomfortable.

Looking at the vest, it might work. I think it's more suitable to an older baby who can sit up by themselves and be a bit heavier and bigger.
