I bought this for my granddaughter who weighs 12 pounds. We had intended to take her boating, but with the drought conditions, we haven't been on the lake much. However, my daughter took my granddaughter to the pool (after pediatrician okay'd) and they both love it. My granddaughter floats in the pool and kicks her legs. The chest part slides up toward her neck, but she doesn't seem to mind it. I would recommend bringing along sunglasses because her little face is facing upward toward the sun as she floats around.

The infant life vest was bought for an 18 month old, 33" tall, and 23 pounds. I wasn't sure how it would fit, but putting it on our child it seemed ok. It was a little confining with the collar around the head and the thick front, but biggest complaint is when in the water the main front part moves up under the chin and looks very uncomfortable and confining. I think the problem is that the strap around the waist is not wide enough and does not hold it in place snuggly. Also, if the child does not have a shirt on or a one pc. bathing suit, the small strap around the waist isn't comfortable on their skin, whereas a wider piece might do better. As our child gets taller, maybe the straddle will keep the vest in place and with more use it may get better. Only used two times so far.

Comments about Overton's Overtons Infant Vest:

Great infant life vest. Fits my 18 lb. daughter snugly, and she doesn't seem to mind wearing it. The strap that goes underneath is thicker and more comfortable for the babies than the thinner rope-like straps, which makes getting them to wear it easier.

I have bought this life jacket for 2 baby gifts. I was always frustrated that life jackets for infants are so hot and uncomfortable. This one is much cooler and comfortable for infants.

I read that this product is good for children up to 30lbs. At what weight would be okay to start using the product? How little of a baby would be safe, and fit well, in this vest?

                  A:

Our less than 30 lb. infant vests are designed to fit all infants. However, because there is such a wide range of shapes and sizes of infants, it is always best to try the vest on the child, confirm that it is comfortable and adjusts correctly. As far as when it is alright to start using the vest, that would be at the parents discretion and if on watercraft, state law would require the use of one at all times.

Will this product turn the baby onto his back and keep him from rolling over onto his side or front?

                  A:

The baby safe product is rated as a Type II PFD, which is our near-shore buoyant vest. It is intended for children up to 30 lbs. and designed to turn most unconscious wearers face-up in the water. It features foam panels in the front of the vest and none in the back to accomplish this.
