This telescoping hook delivers great value for the price. Primary use is to assist with launching & docking our boat. Aids in keeping the boat from slamming into the dock, reaching out to grab a mooring cleat and gently pushing away when launching.
The telescoping feature is really nice taking up mimimal space in our 17 ft. open bow runabout.
In my opinion worth the price and will purchase several more units as gifts to other boaters.

This works great for snagging all things floating around our dock, and the locking mechanism is especially effective and easy to use (it works like those adjustable hiking poles). And yes, it does float, even w/o the hand grip on it (see below).
However, there are two issues. One is that the hook screws onto the end of the pole, which also means that it screws off the end of the pole. I've never had it come off, but it is usually loose.
I might try wrapping some plumber's Teflon tape on the threads and see if that doesn't tighten things up a bit.
But then, the other day, I had been using the pole in the water to snag some things off the bottom. When I collapsed the pole for storage, the hand grip shot off and sunk. I suppose that water had gotten into the pole and hydraulically shot the grip off like one of those squirt guns.
Oh well, I suppose I can find a new grip at a bike store.
Otherwise, it's great.

Comments about Overton's Overton's Floating Telescoping Boat Hook:
We use the floating telescoping boat hook to assist with docking and pulling. This tool has shown to be invaluable to us. We've found so many more uses. This is the second hook we've ordered within three months due to versatility. We've given the extra boat hook to friends who are also avid boaters.
