Product Description
nikon Many are predicting 2011 to be "the year of the rimfire" and the new PROSTAFF Rimfire 3-9x40 is likely to be one of the reasons why. With all the performance features of the new PROSTAFF big game riflescopes, the new 3-9x40 also integrates the .22 LR-specific BDC 150 reticle and a 50-yard parallax setting for confidence and precision out to 150 yards with the rimfire 22 long rifle. Fully multicoated lenses offer maximum brightness and contrast and light transmission up to 92%. Nikon coats all lenses with multiple layers of anti-reflective compounds. Zero-Reset turrets allow you to sight-in at 20 yards, lift the spring-loaded adjustment knob, rotate to your "zero," and re-engage. Field adjustments are now as simple as dialing-in your subsequent ranges. Precise 1/4" adjustments (at 50 yards) with an incredible 80 MOA adjustment range (at 100 yards).

I have a Ruger 10/22 with the stainless spiral hammered barrel. Almost put a Simmons 3x9 on it on multiple times. I mounted it at the range with a set of real Weavers. Had it sighted in in 5 clips, one paper target and 30 minutes. This is the scope you want for your rimfire rifle. It is bright and clear, easy to adjust, and a great rectile.

The problems, it is a pretty penny for a penny shooter, I haven't got the rectile in focus at the high power setting, the eye alignment is more key than the windage adjustments or the ammo drift of cheap hp's. You can 5 rds drill a 1/2 inch circle at 25 yards with 2 minutes of patient alignment and some CCI standard velocity. Not for the budget tube fed 22. But if you dropped $400 plus on a precision plinker, drop the extra on this awesome piece of glass.

I use this for puncing paper, knock downs and swing targets. I have no experiance or intent of using it for varmit hunting.

The plastic caps that cover the adjustment knobs are complete junk. You really have to go slow and pay attention, because the threads want to cross. The BDC system is okay (I suppose) but it is set for one bullet weight and a specific speed. Having a Tac-scope ajustment would be better, but again this is a .22. Just don't expect much from the BDC system. It would be nice if Gander Mountain would sell me some ammo, so I can actually use this thing. No .22 ammo to be found!

Comments about Nikon PROSTAFF Rimfire 3-9x40 Matte Scope, BDC 150:

Very simple to setup. The BDC was dead on from 25-150 yards. I recommended this scope to three other friends.

Comments about Nikon PROSTAFF Rimfire 3-9x40 Matte Scope, BDC 150:

I put this on a Savage Mk II BV that had come mounted with an unimpressive Bushnell scope.

The scope is very clear and bright. The BDC reticle works nicely. After doing some reading I ended up sighting the scope in a 25 yards rather than 50, as there's only a .13" drop with the ammo I use. This setup puts the BDC circles on a 57, 81, 99 and 126 yards.

I would recommend downloading the Nikon Spot On software to your smartphone as well.

Comments about Nikon PROSTAFF Rimfire 3-9x40 Matte Scope, BDC 150:

Haven't been able to take this scope to the range yet. Product appears to be of excellent quality. Optics are clear and bright. So far, the only negative I have found is the power adjustment ring is very hard to turn. I'm sure this has to do with preventing dirt and water from entering and maybe it will loosen up with use. I think the greatest feature is the BDC reticle combined with the web accessable ballistics program. With this program, you can find the corrisponding yardage for the all the reticle markings. The program shows most commercial ammo and allows you to enter data for your handloads. This allows this scope to be used with any rifle, not just a .22 rimfire.
Can't wait for the weather to improve to allow some range time.
