        The large (40 - 44) was too small with any kind of jacket on; the XL has enough adjustability to cover 44 through 48. All it needs is some wool patches for my flies (I'll add them).

              I was replacing the same vest, which has seen many summers and winters of use and is in good shape considering I purchased it in 1977 from Mustang. At that time the factory called it large and I was a comfortable 38 - 40. Vest shrunk over time, Not! I grew out (not up) so now I'm a comfortable 42 to 44. Both the factory and Overton's identify the the size on the large as 40 - 44. Maybe if you don't wear a jacket under the vest. So be aware that the large fits smaller than sized. I'm returning and ordering an XL.

                In all honesty it has not been used by me yet, it was a Christmas gift. I had another vest as a gift and it was uncomfortable (PFD11) and exchanged it for this vest. So NO water exposure yet just trying out the fit and playing with all the straps and D rings, and examining it. It fits great, extremely adjustable and very tough. The reflector strips are a great feature as is the overall color. The pockets and D rings are great. So even though it's a DRY land fit only, so far I think it's great. It is also flexible and not cumbersome and awkward.

                  Comfortable vest, sizing allows ease of movement of my arms when leadering/wiring fish. Gives me extra peace of mind with the solas tape and orange color knowing i'll be easy to spot should i go overboard. Pockets are good size to hold whistle and strobe, etc.
