I bought this boot a month and a half ago. I wore them at home in the house for two weeks to break them in before taking then on a vacation to New Mexico. I don't think that was needed. They were comfortable from day one. In the store I tried on 6 other pairs of boots and these felt the best out of the box. I bought them because I had another pair of Merrill's that lasted almost 10 years. I wore the sole right off them. I put these new boots to the test in the mountains of New Mexico and they performed great. We put on 30 miles of hiking in 4 days. My whole body was sore, but the boots felt good. I also bought them because they were water proof, for the spring time in Wisconsin. So far they have proven to be water proof and very comfortable. Sizing was true to fit. I wear size 9 in everything else and that is the size these boots fit best at. The only negatives I found were, that they could use a little more cushion on the ball of foot for extremely long hikes, but for everyday use feels great, and I thought price was a little high. But if they last as long as my last pair they will have paid for themselves. Time will tell. Very happy with them so far!

Comments about Merrell Outland Hiking Boots:
This is a follow up to a review less than a year ago. The pros about this boot are that it is very comfortable. I have hiked a quite a few miles in these boots. The other pro is that the traction was good I thought. The cons were that it was not water proof 8 months after I bought them and the uppers are starting to pull away from the soles. I am very disappointed with these boots. I bought them because they were waterproof and my last pair of Merrills lasted 10 years. For the price of these boots I expected alot more from them. Now I have a comfortable boot that I can only wear in dry weather. In Wisconsin that leaves half the year out because of snow. I gave them a 3 star because of the comfort but should have given them a 2 star as I sit here typing this getting upset and thinking about the wasted money. Great boot for 8 months but not after that.

Comments about Merrell Outland Hiking Boots:
These are great hiking boots but they aren't water resistant as stated. In a small amount of snow feet got soaked. Excellent traction. They are also pretty hot in warm conditions.

Comments about Merrell Outland Hiking Boots:
I have used the boot and it is overall a great boot. I went on a hike recently and the trail was flooded, we had to trek through mud, thorn bushes, and the ground was in puddles. I had no complain, it went trough it all.

Comments about Merrell Outland Hiking Boots:
The shoes are really comfortable and they hold up well. Stylish too. I've been really happy with mine. However, I did have to buy a really good water proofing spray and give them a few coats. They were then water resistant. If you don't mind doing that, they are a perfect shoe.

Comments about Merrell Outland Hiking Boots:
Finding the correct size in high quality boot is very difficult. They were used for winter hiking. They were comfortable, kept my feet warm and dry, and they didn't fall apart from rugged terrain.
