              • Q:

bottom 4 inches of paint outboard lower unit has been stripped to down to metal (almost out of water at dock!), so do I need a primer on this part of the lower unit before using the black? Can you use a rustoleum metal primer on zinc alloy? Or do you recommend no primer, just the black?

Is this a paint in which I can paint the entire exterior of my boat, or just touch up my trailer & motor, maybe do some stenciling??? Also, what time of primer would you recommend prior to my using this product?

                  A:

This is strictly motor paint, so it is not intended to be used on anything else but an outboard or inboard/outboard motor. No primer is needed because usually you would just be matching and painting over the same color of your motor. This is Mercury black so it matches Mercury motors (O/B AND I/O).

Is this a gloss finish or satin finish? Will it dry smooth or lumpy?

                  A:

The finish will be between a traditional gloss and satin finish. Smoothness of coat is determined by how smooth the surface is. If the surface has been sanded and primed thoroughly, the surface should dry smooth with an even paint coat.
