My fiance' gave me the 7-in-1 smoker for Christmas. When I unwrapped it, I coudn't figure out how they got something that big into a box that small.

Assembly: While there were a lot of loose parts (i think this has something to do with how they got it into the small box), the instructions were extremely clear and made assembly very simple. All of the nuts / bolts / wingnuts were in conspicuously marked packaging with the part number on the corresponding parts. I think the only tool I ended up using was a Phillips head screwdriver.

First Use: I set up my new smoker outside and after consulting my future father-in-law (who also has this smoker) decided to season my smoker while cooking some burgers. I picked up some mesquite and hickory chips from the local store and that night after work started my first smoking.

The burner was easy to light & control... In the instructions they mention to be careful as the smoker will heat up quickly... I did not experience this... probably because I was very cautious not to turn the burner up too high at first, and also because it was below freezing outside! However, I got the smoker up to the appropriate temperature (I was shooting for 225F) and started smoking my burgers.

The only problem that I encountered during this trial run was the fact that I added WAY TOO MUCH wood to the "flame plate" inside the smoker. As I found out... if you add too much wood and keep the top off for any length of time, it invites a flare-up to occur in the wood which can create extremely high temperatures as the dry chips burn. In my case... I when I saw what happen I just took the top section of the smoker off and set it aside while the chips burned themselves out... no big deal. But in the future... I'll know not to add too much wood at a time.

When I got the smoker going again with the correct amount of wood, I cooked my burgers at 250F for about 1hr 10 min (checking their temp occasionaly with a digital thermometer)... They turned out great! The meat had a lot of flavor.

I can't wait to use my new smoker again!

I have used it about 6 times and I feel like it does not function the way it was built for. I used it first as a propane smoker and then tried it as charcoal and had many issues with it. Using it as a propane smoker to maintain a temperature of 200 degrees the pilot has to be set low and the flame seems to choke like it needs more air. The pilot easily blows out with the slightest wind gusts. I am scared if I leave the smoker alone for 10 seconds because if a wind gust blows out the pilot propane will build up in the smoker and if a hot ember from the wood sparks my house will blow up. As charcoal I do not like the fact that there is hardly enough room between the water pan and the charcoal bed. I started off with enough red hot coals to give an inch under the water pan and the temperature barely touched 200 degrees. It is impossible to add more coals in the front access door because there is a very small gap between the coal bed and the water pan. All you can fit between the gap is a twig, so I have to take it apart using my ove gloves while it is still hot to add more hot coals.

Do not Buy and if you do I warned you! I recommend buying smokehollow brand. The burner is brass and has 100% wind shield protection.

Comments about Masterbuilt Master 10.5-Quart 7-In-1 Smoker and Grill:

Instruction book on assembly needs some work. Had to call Masterbuilt to figure out how to install the igniter which does not work 99 % of the time. Use my fire stick to light it.

Propane regulator is junk. Ruined 2 meals on me. A hand lighter will put out more flame. They sent me a replacement no problem. Junk again. Works for 2 minutes and then no fire. Went to my local hardware store and purchased a quality..... gas regulator. Now the burner works fine.

Not overly pleased. 1st time it really worked on gas with the new regulator the paint bubbled off the sides. As a free standing charcoal grill works great. As a smoker so, so. Extremely hard to add more wood chips or wood. Fuel door is way............. to small.

The accessories of the pot and steaming basket are great. To bad the rest is not.

I love to grill and embarrassed to say have over 4K in grills in my yard, back woods camp, motor home and on my boat. Reading other reviews that are favorable is confusing. Do I have the lemon in the production run ??

This a a replacement for my 1st 7 in 1 which lasted over ten years without any problems. I used it almost daily to cook everything in a meal. I replaced the charcoal pan twice. The grill was stored outside exposed to all weather elements. Finally it just rusted through in a few spots causing a replacement. The cast iron burner worked well right up to the end. I did purchase a cover for the new one. I can't recommend this smoker strongly enough.

Comments about Masterbuilt Master 10.5-Quart 7-In-1 Smoker and Grill:

The positives-First of all let me say that these have been great tools overall, I have owned 2 of them over the last 10 years. I used them primarily for grilling and smoking, and have made everything under the sun on them. They work great, as advertised, and are easy to use with a little knowledge of grilling/smoking temperatures-instructions included. The negatives-The materials used in the construction of these unit are not as durable as they could be. You will find that despite the best of care(covering, keeping them out of the rain), they will rot out quickly. Throughout ownership, I have had to purchase no less than 3 additional flame discs(holds wood chips or charcoal above the burner) from masterbuilt [...]. After a few flame disc changeouts, the rest of the unit deteriorates beyond repair. So, you are looking at about a 4-5 year lifespan and about $66 dollars worth of replacement parts.

Easiest smoker I have ever used. Ribs, Chicken, Butts, Briskets, you name it, cooked to perfection! Soak the chips(30 min at least 1 1/2 to 2 cups), wrap them in foil, poke small air vents on top side. Fill the pan with water, (sometimes mix in fruit juice even coke or beer) put the meat on and let her rip! I never worry about flame up, just keep an eye on the water level (never let it go below 1/3 full). The moist moist and delicious BBQ you will put in your mouth!

I've used mine heavily, (marketed by a competitor, but still the exact same product), for about 6 years and its starting to fall apart! Its rusting away and held together with a prayer, but still smokes 2 5lbs briskets and 17 lbs of country spare ribs without a problem. Only issue is burner clogs easily with rust. Other than that, I'm currently buying a new one!

I am replacing my old MB 7 snd 1. I got 4 years out of the old one. It has been outside with no cover. I purchased a 10 gallon pot and have fried multiple turkeys every Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have smoked ribs and pork shoulders. It cooks chicken, burgers, steak and pork loins well, with charcaol and/or gas. I always smoke ribs using charcoal and use the propane to keep the temperature constant. If your woodchips are burning, make sure soak them in water for 30 min prior to putting them on the coals. The waterpan is close to the coals but you can fit additional coals using a spatula thru the door. I will remedy with my next MB 7 and 1 by putting the waterpan on the bottom rack and use one of the old rack directly on the waterpan (creating a middle rack so to speak). For the money and versatility this is a got to have grill. Happy Grilling!

Not with the pot they supply. You may be able to purchase a pot to fit on the burner with the capacity to hold a turkey, but it doesn't come with it. You can cook a turkey in this though. Comes out moist and tender. Just cook it until the internal temp is hot enough for poultry. At 225 degrees, this takes a while, but it is sure good. Some soaked wood chips on the bottom and a waterpan with some liquid smoke in it add to the flavor.

I don't believe so. I looked into the same thing because my regular gas grill uses natural gas and not propane. I don't think there's a conversion kit that fits. The supplied burner requires the psi's that propane gives off and nat. gas flows at a slower rate. Play it safe and do what I do. Buy a few extra cylinders and rotate through them. Its more convenient that you think. I have 5. Hope this helps and good luck.
